A fundraising barbecue and memorial birthday fundraiser in aid of the Hope Cancer Support Centre in Enniscorthy raised €2,500 for the community facility.

The events were organised by Leah Butler whose aunt, Mary Donnelly, passed away in 2021 from breast cancer.

Speaking to the Enniscorthy Guardian, Leah said Mary’s wish was that when she got better she was going to raise money for the Hope Centre and also for Gorey District Hospital for the support both provided to her. Sadly, she didn’t get to fulfill those wishes herself but Leah did it for her and in addition to the barbecue, which was sponsored by Butcher’s Best in New Ross, she also organised a GoFundMe campaign in aid of Gorey District Hospital which raised €1,350.

Leah thanked everyone who supported both initiatives.
