A not-so-black tie ball will take place in Enniscorthy, next week aid of Wexford People Helping People will take place in the IFA Centre on Tuesday, July 26, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
A spokesperson for the organisers said the event will be a night full of music, art, fun and social outreach.
“It will be a ribbing of Enniscorthy’s old guard in aid of a good cause,” he said.
“Among the music and performances, we're holding ‘the Melon Monarch’, our own version of a certain local competition, although with a few tweaks,” said the spokesperson.
The Melon Monarch promises to be a pageant unlike anything ever seen in Enniscorthy and will feature contestants representing local groups and societies.
“It's not a beauty contest, there's absolutely no dress code and all genders welcome,” said the spokesperson.
“Representatives can wear whatever they want, say whatever they want, be whomever they want,” he added.
Among the groups scheduled to be represented at the event are: Wexford PRIDE; Enniscorthy Drama Group and Wexford Sk8tr Kids - 100% Skateboarder Southeast Ireland Chapter.
It’s expected there will be numerous other groups represented on the night too.
The live music performances will feature a number of well known local bands and artists including Peer Pleasure; Unstuck; Heater; For the Company and DJ Bofadeez.
There will also be a raffle on the night and a range of amusements and attractions. Tickets for the event, priced €10, are available on Eventbrite and they will also be available on the door.
