I sincerely hope that the hints Tony was dropping not so subtly last week about working from home again will remain just that…hints/ suggestions and not actual orders.
I don’t think I’m cut out for working from home and if Himself has to work from home again we may as well just separate now and be done with it.
You see I’m one of those people who gets distracted easily so if I’m working from home, I start seeing things that need doing around the house. It’s not because I enjoy housework. It’s more to do with the fact that I’m not self disciplined enough to focus on the job at hand and only that.
I also miss the office banter even with the people that normally drive me up the wall! It’s kind of ironic that you spend most of your adult life giving out about the gobshites you work with (Obviously MY colleagues aren’t gobshites – they’re lovely people!) and then it’s taken away from you and you start pining for their inane chatter.
I like the routine of going into the office, having the tea break at 11 and talking to other adults about what I watched on telly the night before or where I went at the weekend.
If Tony’s hints were anything to go by I could be back in the kitchen with Himself by next week – laptops at dawn and firing him daggers every time he takes a zoom call, which our neighbours down the road could probably hear.
That’s the other thing – if I like routine, Himself is fond of a regime, usually a dictatorial one! He will not have his morning tea, one minute before 11 am whereas I could’ve had three by then. Then the banana comes out. A banana with his elevenses and an apple with his afternoon tea. A chocolate Kimberley wouldn’t even be enough to entice him to deviate from his regime.
And then of course I’d want the chats. Well it is 11 O’Clock – break time. That’s what people do when they’re on their break – have the chats. Except Himself doesn’t really do chats. So he makes his tea, unpeels his banana and goes back to work. Meanwhile I could be buying something online or scrolling through Instagram, none of which he approves of. By 5 O’Clock we’re usually not talking to each other.
So for the sake of our marriage I really do hope Tony doesn’t issue a WFH edict. I’m mad about Tony but this is one time I have to question his judgement. Would it not match him better to close nightclubs and late night bars for a few weeks to try and stem this latest wave? Anyone can see that is one of the most difficult sectors to police in terms of covid compliancy.
I have a bad feeling about this. I may buy more bananas!
