Cruinniú na nÓg events
As part of Cruinniú na nÓg, Gorey Library will host several events for people of all ages.
STEM workshop design and make a kite with anyone4science: Celebrate Cruinniú na nÓg 2023 with this STEM workshop design and make a kite with anyone4science. In this workshop lasting 60 minutes, children will learn how machines stay in the air and the science of flight. They will then design and make their own kite and test their prototypes. At the end of the workshop the teacher will also demonstrate a flying tea bag. Is it magic or Science? Suitable for 6-12 year olds. A parent/guardian must remain in the library for the duration of the event.

This event will take place on Saturday, June 10, with a workshop running from 10.30 a.m. to 11.15 a.m. and another from 11.30 a.m. to 12.15 p.m.
Creative writing course for children: Join Margaret Galvin, poet and writer for a creative session at Gorey Library. Discover new and unexpected ways to use language. Laughter, fun and new stories guaranteed. The aim of the workshop is to present a few sample texts to children to stimulate imagination and a personal creative response. Writing prompts are offered to enable children to write their own and group-based pieces. Sensory perception is key to good writing. Sensory stimuli will be used to pique various senses and express the awareness in writing. The session will be very relaxed. There will be an emphasis on fun with language, storytelling and confidence boosting activities with language. Various texts will be selected to stimulate and support discussion and also to prompt an empathetic understanding of content. This event will take place on Saturday, June 10 from 2.15 p.m. until 4.15 p.m.

Gorey Little Theatre
Gorey Little Theatre's AGM will take place on Monday, May 29 2023 at 7.30 p.m. We are always looking for new members so if you have any interest in getting involved with any aspect of the theatre please come along and become part of our team.
Graveyard
The restored historic Market Square Graveyard is now open, weather permitting, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on weekdays, for the summer. Information leaflets are available on request.
The graveyard was restored by Gorey Tidy Towns, Christ Church, Gorey, and Wexford County Council from 2018 to 2020.
Plants cultivated from the box tree in the centre of the graveyard are on sale for €2 in the cemetery. Proceeds go to Gorey Tidy Towns.
Community Development Group
Gorey Community Development Group is a voluntary organisation of of people from the Gorey area who wish to support the town’s development and growth.
This includes working with Wexford County Council to preserve the heritage of the Market House and benefit the local community, develop an inclusive multi-purpose community centre, and serve as an umbrella group for the many voluntary organisations doing great work in the town.
Everyone is welcome to join the group, which meets fortnightly on a Wednesday evening. Anyone interested in becoming involved please email goreycommunitydevelopment@gmail.com or contact Michael 087 9770497 or Tamsin 085 167 4349.
Obituaries
The Gorey Guardian offers tribute obituary pieces for bereaved family members and friends within the local community who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one.
The weekly service is offered free of charge, with all obituaries completed in a manner that is sensitive to your own personal wishes and requests.
The obituaries are also shaped entirely by your direction and they are written in full consultation with you at all times and at all stages.
This ensures that they are a fitting tribute to the deceased person.

St Vincent de Paul
St Vincent de Paul is available to assist families who maybe experiencing particular financial stress, especially with basic necessities.

Exhibition
Gorey School of Art will undergo a creative transformation as the classrooms becomes a colourful gallery this June bank holiday weekend.
The annual student exhibition is always a highly-anticipated event in the school’s calendar and this year proves no different. After nine months of painting, sculpting, snapping photos and more, the students are ready to showcase their work.
The 2023 exhibition will put a artwork in a variety of mediums on display including painting, print, sculpture, ceramic, photography and mixed media.
All of this artwork was created by students on one of the many Gorey School of Art courses which include full-time courses in portfolio preparation, documentary filmmaking and photography, alongside part-time courses in painting and photography.
The exhibition will open to the public on Friday, June 2 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. It will also be open on Saturday, June 3 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
Dart Fundraiser
A dart fundraiser in aid of Our Lady's Hospice in Harold's Cross and LauraLynn Children's Hospice will take place in The Golden Anchor on Saturday, July 15 from 7 p.m.
Dart legends Tony O’Shea and Andy Hamilton will be there on the night, while participants can also expect a bumper raffle, auction, and plenty of craic. This year, there will be some lovely prizes for the three best fancy dress challengers.
In the run-up to the event, organiser Lisa Kelly is seeking support from business owners willing to help on the night by sponsoring players or donating a prize to the raffle. Any donation will be very greatly appreciated and every business that helps will be tagged in all social media posts and in a programme on the night. Call Lisa on 087 265 2595 if you are interested in supporting the event.
Last year’s fundraiser proved to be a huge success, with 30 challengers singing up in the hope of beating the two professional players. The event was organised in memory of Lisa’s sister Pamela, who passed away from cancer in 2020.
Open Library
The My Open Library in Gorey Library service offers extended opening hours by providing library access to My Open Library members from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day, 365 days of the year. Staffed hours continue on the normal schedule.
You must be 16 or over to register for this service. Under 16s can access only with a parent or guardian.
