KILMUCKRIDGE

Biodiversity Action Plan

Kilmuckridge Tidy Towns is delighted to announce that it has been awarded a grant by Community Foundation Ireland to produce a plan with ecologist Faith Wilson to protect and improve the plant and animal life of Kilmuckridge.

According to Charles Mossman, Nature and Biodiversity Lead for Kilmuckridge Tidy Towns, “This grant will help us discover some of the plant and animal species that live in our area, and help us protect them for future generations. We want to make Kilmuckridge a better place for pollinating insects such as bees and butterflies, endangered animals such as hedgehogs and red squirrels, rare birds like owls and woodpeckers, and amphibians like frogs and newts. Faith will survey our local habitats and species, and recommend actions for the group to ensure that such creatures have safe places to live in and around our village.”

Charles added “We intend to engage with the community through social media, a survey and a public meeting to make sure everyone, who wants to, has a say. We have permission from some landowners to survey their land. The project is due to commence shortly with completion by the end of September of this year. Anyone can share their views and take part, for instance by creating a wildlife patch or small pond in their garden, or feeding the garden birds.”

Jason Coulter, Grants Executive, said “At Community Foundation Ireland, we believe that preserving the different forms of life in an area is crucial for the well-being of our planet and our communities and are looking forward to seeing Kilmuckridge’s plan.”

To find out more or if you wish to take part please contact Charles on 0896026115 or visit https://www.facebook.com/KilmuckridgeTT/
