BOOLAVOGUE

Darkness into Light 2023

There was a huge turnout for the ‘Darkness into Light’ sunrise walk in Boolavogue on Saturday last, the 6th. of May.

Starting from the Church carpark at 4.15am they headed off down Ballytracey, preceeded by Ben Scarfe on his intensely illuminated bike. The many children who had come along, led the throng and it was heartwarming to hear their merry laughter in the darkness, down through Ballytracey, over the Bog Road and back to Tobar Geal and refreshments in the Hall. Behind the procession was Watt Gahan in his jeep, keeping the walkers safe.

The Church and Hall were decorated with tealights and balloons by Kelly Ryan and Olive Burke while a very special thanks is due to Kathy Coughlan for setting up the Hall and ensuring that the burco was boiling once the walkers returned. Cllr Pip Breen who did the walk got to appreciate the Bog Lane that he was instrumental in helping develop and surface.

The organisers would like to thank all those who turned up, those who helped serve refreshemnts Murt & Chanel Walsh of Murt Walsh Menswear for sponsoring the refreshments and especially those who have donated money to this very worthy cause. Donations are still being accepted and can also still be made online and the total will be announced as soon as it is available.
