Whist drive results

Gorey Whist Drive Results November 16: Two tops: Rosarii Gillick and John Horan, First Lady: Eilish Murphy, Second Lady: Deirdre Power, Half time Lady: Georgina Power, First Gent: Leslie Dorell, Second Gent: Sadie Moedant and Two Half Gents: George Gillbert and Colin Levingstone.

100KMs for MS

Members of the editorial, photography, digital and advertising team at People Newspapers in Wexford and Wicklow have come together to walk/run/jog 100 kilometres each during the month of November in aid of the local branches of MS Ireland.

As they enter the final full week, just over €1,000 has been raised already with your support being greatly appreciated.

Gorey Active Retirement

Retirement sometimes comes to people as a shock. On Friday they leave their job and on Monday they are at a loss as to what they can do without the routine of work. Preparing for retirement is important , taking up hobbies, sports , crafts or exercise in some form means they can be extended in retirement and can help people to live longer. Some people may be surprised that the entry age for Active Retirement is just 50 but this is just to help plan for retirement. For those interested in joining Gorey Active Retirement will be pleased with the range of activities.

Weekly Activities held in Tara Rock G.A.A.

Mondays bowling 12 p.m. to 2 p.m.

Tuesday Go For Life 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Thursday Art 2p.m. to 4 p.m.

Thursday Card Making 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Wednesday walking in Courtown 11 p.m. 1 p.m.

During the year there is a variety of events such as the Spring and Autumn Breaks usually in Ireland. Mystery Tour Trips to Theatres and Cinemas, Trips to Dog and Horse racing, Trips to Historic places, Museums, galleries and pleasure places.

There are also afternoon tea dances with other branches, as well as competing in indoor Bowling Tournaments, Christmas dinner and dance.

Customer appreciation

Kings Gala Gorey is holding a customer appreciation day on Friday, November 26 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and all are welcome to attend.

The team here at Kings are so looking forward to bringing some cheer to loyal customers just in time for Christmas with some surprises in store.

Gorey Craft Fair

Gorey craft fair in Gorey shopping centre takes place every Saturday from November 27 to December 11 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.n.

Come along and buy all your Christmas gifts which are hand made by local crafters.

Land of Light at Wells

Taking place at Wells House this winter, Land of Light is a new event to shine a spotlight on the south east.

A unique family-friendly experience, it’s the first of its kind in Ireland, delivering thrills and excitement at every turn, with all Covid-19 guidelines followed.

‘Land of Light’ is an outdoor, socially distanced event for the entire family, and for all ages.

It’s an alcohol-free event, with food and hot drinks available at the end of the trail.

‘Paper Tuesdays’ live

The ‘Paper Tuesdays’ podcast live podcast show will take place at Gorey Little Theatre on Friday, December 3, named ‘A Christmas special’.

Guests will include GAA’s Conor McDonald and Billy Byrne, Ger Cushe and podcaster Bríd Browne.

An over-18s event, tickets cost €17 and are available at www.papertuesdays.com.

Naomh Eanna collection

The 12 draws of Christmas will take place at Naomh Eanna beginning on December 10 and the club will take to the streets at the weekend to promote the event.

Catch them on Gorey Main Street this Saturday from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Gorey Musical Society show

Gorey Musical Society is delighted to announce its return with ‘Sound of Music’ for 2022. Auditions will take place on Sunday, November 14.

Musical fans can save the date for April 3 to April 9, 2022 after a close to two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

This time around, the musical will be directed by Stephen Acton, musical director Conor McCarthy and Megan McEvoy as choreographer.

Gorey Awards 

Nominations and voting have started for this year’s Gorey Business and Endeavour Awards, with the ceremony set to take place on February 4, 2022 in the Amber Springs Hotel.

With 21 categories in total in both business and community sections, the winners will be determined by a combination of the public votes and a panel of five local business members from the Gorey Business Network.

Tickets to go on sales in November via the website, with sponsorship opportunities still available.

All profits from the night will be donated to Gorey area based charities or community groups from the top five nominated for that category.

Courtown RNLI

Winter hours have now returned to the shop with doors open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

With Christmas stock in store, now is the perfect time to shop early and support the shop through buying RNLI gifts and souvenirs to help save lives at sea.

2022 calendars will soon be in stock as well as other souvenirs.

Live music

On Friday, November 26, singer-songwriter Mick Hanly will take to the stage at Gorey Little Theatre while the Kilkennys will rock the house on Saturday, November 27 from 8 p.m

‘The Kilkennys’ are named after their beloved home and the group has evolved through the years and are anchored by founding members Davey Cashin, Tommy Mackey, Mick Martin and newest member Josh O’Loughlin.

While Mick Hanly is a popular singer-songwriter who really engages an audience while on stage with his storytelling.
