Agri-Environment Training

William Kelly will hold an Agri-Environment Training Scheme (AETS) in Askamore Community Hall Y25F6D8 on Thursday October 6th 2022. The Agri-Environment Training Scheme (AETS) is a voluntary training scheme.

The aim of the Scheme is: To train farmers in environmental practices and standards; To encourage and help them take part in future agri-environment schemes; To promote awareness of the importance of farm safety.

The Agri-Environment Training scheme is open to farmers who apply for BPS. A farmer may only attend one training course during the lifetime of the Scheme. The amount payable to a farmer who satisfactorily attends an AETS course is €156. This amount is paid to the AETS Trainer who runs the course and he will pay each farmer who satisfactorily attends the full course.

St Patrick’s GAA lotto

There was no winner of the jackpot on Monday, September 12; winning numbers were 7, 8, 13 and 28. Nobody matched three numbers so €150 was donated to the Autism unit at Ballycanew NS.

FabLab in Ballycanew Resource Centre

Ballycanew Ballyoughter Community Development Association have launched a new facility, FabLab, aimed at helping entrepreneurs to turn their ideas into new products and prototypes through providing access to a range of advanced digital manufacturing technology.

The list of services now available at the Ballcanew FabLab include: laser engraving (engrave some Perspex for a light stand); 3d Printer (resin-based) allowing you to make your own chess set or one of our super dragons; laser cutting (fine detail wooden cut-outs); 3d printing (filament-based) to create our classic fox or snakes; circuit (create your own shadow box or make your own birthday card or invitations); a drone and Adobe products. More services will be added over the coming months including a 3d scanner.

Use of the services can be booked over the phone by calling 087 2127614, or via the Ballycanew Ballyoughter Community Development Association’s Facebook page. All bookings are €15 per hour.

Modern Jive Dancing

Just a reminder that we’re back in Ballycanew Resource Centre from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Tuesdays night for Modern Jive. And very much looking forward to dancing Modern Jive with you all then. Take the opportunity and get out have fun and have the craic. It’s been a long time coming. No partner needed.

Tidy Towns news

We are very fortunate to announce that Karin Dubsky Coastwatch will join us on Saturday morning 24th September from 10-11am to conduct a Coastwatch survey at Cahore (Meeting at Cahore pier at 10 am), with a view of the survey results going into an exhibition in the County Hall/local libraries at a later stage along with results from other areas along the Wexford coast.

Karin is a marine ecologist working in Trinity College Dublin as an environmental activist. Co ordinator and Co. founder of Coastwatch europe and a member of the European Environmental Bureau.

Art exhibition

Ballygarrett Tidy Towns will host an art exhibition on Friday 23rd September in The Schooner, Ballygarrett from 8pm. Admission free, Cheese and wine. Local artists exhibiting include Kate Tyrrell, Roisin Markham, Sheena Furlong, Trish Middleton, Eithne Ryan, Kate Kos, Robin Grundy and Ruth Harte.

Sympathy

Sincere sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of Margaret Dowse nee Rickerby, Main Street, Carnew who died recently, her remains were removed to All Saints Church Carnew on Thursday for 2pm service followed by burial in adjoining church yard.

To the family and relatives of Lester Naylor, London and Carnew who died during the week and funeral service took place on Saturday.

GAA lotto

Carnew GAA lotto was not won numbers were 11,18,24,28, lucky dips were Bridget Kinsella and Ben Gilligan, the next draw is26th September and the jackpot is €11,600. Tickets only €2 from any local shop or online.

Cabaret

The annual get together for Tomacork church is on Friday 4th November at 9pm in Coollattin Golf Club, music by John Flood, admission €5 tickets can be bought off any of the committee.

Men only exercise class

COOLGREANY

Gymkhana/Field Day

After a two years absence due to Covid 19. The 41st Johnstown/Coolgreany Gymkhana & Field Day is taking place on Sunday 25th September in Coolgreany Village and is in aid of St David’s Church & both local schools in the parish.

Horse and pony jumping will commence at 10am with many jumping classes to suit the experienced and less experienced rider. There will be plenty of activity with side entertainment on the day for young and old. Also will be our very popular barbecue, Tea Tent and home baking stalls. Our famous Dog Show will commence at 3pm with 13 different classes.

Doctor’s Surgery

The local Surgery has reopened for appointments after a long lay-off after the Covid 19 closure, and will operate as usual in Knockgreany, It is very important to have the surgery open again and to have a Doctor close by in our midst.

Handball

Congratulations to Cloidhna O’Connell and Cora Doyle on winning on winning the ladies Junior B Doubles, by overcoming a Co Tyrone pair by 21-2 and 21-7. A very well done girls

Arklow Positive Ageing

Arklow Positive Ageing are going on a week’s holiday on 2nd of October to Westport, coming home Friday 7th), social dancing for the week. The cost for this is €300 per person sharing or 375 for a single (this does not include the bus at the moment). Anyone interested can contact 087 2464243.

Coolgreany is very fortunate to have a Community House in our village for the benefit of all organisations in our area, and it also has an outdoor covered area at the rear

CE Workers

Great work has been done by the Fas workers around the village, which is going along way to help in keeping the village looking so well, also thanks to all the volunteers who look after the flowers on a regular basis.
