Kilrush Parish Raffle

Our Parish Raffle this year will take place on Saturday, September 25, after Mass. Raffle cards will be available from September 4 and five. If you would like to purchase a card or some lines, please contact Fr Power or the parish office. Thank you.

Knock Trip

It was not feasible to organise the annual Askamore trip to Knock this year. However, John Candy tours are planning a trip to Knock early in October if there are at least 30 people interested.

Pick up time would be around 8.30 a.m. on a Sunday with comfort stop along the way, and planning to be in Knock around 1.45 p.m. The bus will leave Knock to to to Breaffy House Hotel in Castlebar after 5 p.m. procession, in time for dinner. Next morning after breakfast, bus to leave at 10 a.m. for return to Knock, and leave Knock for home at 1 p.m. If anyone is interested please contact Mary Kenny at 086 1541948.

New gym at community hall

A new gym will be opening in Askamore Community Hall on September 6. The Gym is being run by Colm O’Neill Fitness For further information check out the Askamore Community Facebook page or phone Colm at 085 7334076.

GAA lotto

The Kilrush-Askamore GAA lotto jackpot now stands at €13,200. There was no winner of the last draw which, the numbers were 5, 6, 16 and 17. The lucky dips went to Paul Tobin, Mick Carton, Paul Doran, Eoin Tomkins. Seller Prize: Ger Kinsella.

The next draw takes place Tuesday, August 31, next in Ferms GAA Club grounds at 10 p.m. Tickets will be distributed through players and ticket promoters.

St Patrick’s GAA lotto

Development Association

There is a new potting shed at the community resource centre, a water butt is installed, raised beds delivered now just waiting for some topsoil. Centre is open to the community daily booking essential.

Coming soon to Ballycanew Resource Centre – Money Heist. A game of clues and puzzles to commit the crime of the century. A great way to spend a rainy afternoon. Available for groups up to six. Booking will be essential. Are you up for the challenge?

Please do not leave bags at the clothing bank if the bank is full. Bring it home and come back another day. The bank is emptied regularly.

Killenagh Wanderers FC

Killenagh Wanderers are looking to add new players to their under-16, under-14, under-12 and under-11 schoolboy panels for the coming league season. Players born in 2006 or 2007 are eligible to play at under-16 level. Players born 2008 or 2009 are eligible to play at under-14. Players born 2010 or 2011 are eligible to play at under-12. Walking track 

Ballygarrett GAA have a floodlit walking track that is opened every evening till 10 p.m. This creates a safe place to walk/run as dark nights approach while also enabling us to enjoy all the physical and mental health benefits from jogging/walking. If you are not already a club member and would like to avail of social membership to use this amenity. Social membership is €25. All money raised goes to club development. Community Text Alert

Carnew Garda are setting up a Text Alert scheme in the area, local representatives will be calling to all the houses in the area with the application forms and forms can be returned to your local garda station, Carnew Enterprise Centre or Victor Young News Agents with €10 to join.

If you did not get a form and you are in the Garda area forms can be got in the post office, Garda station or Victor Young’s, the area of Hillbrook and Coolboy/Coolfancy are also in the area and forms can be got from Christy Gregan’s, Sonnie Gregan’s or Gavin Nolan. Could forms be returned as soon as possible.

Ballyfad Run

A Road Run will take place in Ballyfad (eircode Y25 €375) on Sunday, September 5. Registration is at midday, and the drive starting at 1 p.m.

The run will include cars, bikes, tractors, trucks, and vintage, hot food will be served on site on the day.

All proceeds will be shared between ‘Heart to Hand’, and local needs. Your support would be very much appreciated. For further queries Contact Marie at 087 2223230. Everyone is welcome.

Castletown-Liam Mellows GAA.

Circuit Training continues this Saturday morning at 10 a.m. on Castletown GAA pitch – €5 all levels are catered for. GAA for Mothers and Others: Continues this Monday 8 p.m. in Castletown GAA Pitch. Social Rounders: Saturday 4-5.30 p.m. in Castletown Liam Mellows.

Vintage day

The third annual vintage day will be held in Coolgreany on Sunday, September 12, subject to Government guideline, all vintage and auto jumble welcome, more details later.

Annual barbecue

The Tidy Towns annual barbecue will take place on September 12 (same day as vintage day) in Merrigan’s field from 2 p.m. with live music and craic, with a very large selection of vintage cars and tractors to be admired.

CE Scheme

There is a vacancy in Coolgreany village for a CE worker, working 19 and a half hrs a week. Candidate must have a full driving licence. Please phone Siobhán at 087 1145021 for further details if you are interested.

Tidy Towns news

The Tidy Towns are looking for a photo of the drapery shop that was on the Green in Knockgreany, originally owned by Mrs Kelly. It would be great for the heritage weekif we could get one, so please check out your old photos.

As the Tidy Towns competition adjudication is in progress as much help as possible is needed around the village, please come along and give a hand.
