All invited to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Ordination to the Priesthood of parish priest Fr Joseph Power Sunday, May 29. Mass at 2 p.m. in St Brigid’s Church Kilrush. Bishop Ger Nash will be the chief celebrant followed by refreshments for all in Grennan’s Big Barn, Graiguemore Y21 PF90.

Note: There will no Mass held in Kilrush on Sunday morning, May 29. Mass will be as normal in Askamore at 11 a.m.

Patron dates

The Patrons will take place this year in Askamore on Sunday, June 5, at 1 p.m. and in Kilrush on Sunday, July 31, at 1 p.m.

Pilgrimage to Knock

The two-day annual Askamore pilgrimage to Knock will travel on Monday, July 4, For further information phone 086 1541948.

Ballyellis NS Split the Pot

Winner of Split the Pot Friday, May 20, was Joanne Keane, Munny – winning €160. Split the Pot envelopes can be had from any parent in the school or by calling into the school. Many thanks to everyone for your support. It is much appreciated.

Family Fun Day

Askamore Community Council are hosting a Family Fun Day on Sunday, June 5, from 2 p.m. (Directly after the Patron Mass) €10 admission per family and all proceeds go towards the new wheelchair accessible bathroom and baby changing facilities in the church Grounds/Le Cheile Park. Kids’ disco, barbecue, Face painting, family games, market stalls and lots more.

GAA lotto

There was no winner of the last Kilrush-Askamore GAA lotto draw. The numbers were 11, 17, 25, 27. Lucky dip winners were: Derek Kennedy, Maurice Ruth, Paul Power and Frank Doyle. Seller’s Prize went to Jimmy Ruth. Next draw takes place on Tuesday May 31 in Kilrush/Askamore Club grounds. The jackpot is rising and now stands at €18,900. If you are not in, you can’t win.

Dances of Universal Peace

Dances of Universal Peace will continue on Friday, June 3; Friday, July 1; Friday, August 5, and Friday, September 2, at Askamore Community Centre from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Donation: €10. Please wear warm comfortable clothes and bring slippers.

The Dances of Universal Peace are a gentle yet powerful way to connect with others and to the earth, to experience the true heart of many spiritual traditions and are a beautiful and unique form of meditative and celebratory body prayer.

Through moving, chanting and singing together we create a sense of peace and harmony which radiates through our being to all we share our lives with and nourishes and enriches us body and soul. So badly needed in our world right now.

All Ireland Drama Finals

Well done to Kilrush Drama Group who received nominations for Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress and Best Lighting at the RTÉ All Ireland Drama Festival Awards. Congratulations to Kilrush DG member, Kevin McEvoy, who won Best Lighting with Bunclody-Kilmyshall Drama Group, and to all of our neighbours in Bunclody-Kilmyshall DG who came 2nd overall.

First Holy Communion

Apologies it was last weekend Saturday 21st that 2nd class children made their First Holy Communion. Well done to all the boys and girls, you were all fabulous. A big thank you to Fr Tomás, all the staff in the school and all the parents for all the hard work they put into preparing for yesterday. A big thank you also to Ballycanew National School Parents’ Association for organising some delicious treats for us all afterwards in the Parish hall. We hope you all had a lovely day

St Pat’s GAA

A reminder that we’re back with the Purple and Gold Stars u5’s boys and girls group on Saturday at 10 a.m. in St Pat’s GAA Club, Camolin. Lots of fun games and some treats.

Réalt na Mara GAA

Ballygarrett Réalt na Mara GAA is raising funds to assist the Red Cross in Ukraine through a raffle for both a signed Men’s Wexford hurling jersey or a Wexford LGFA jersey. First Prize: Choice of either signed Wexford Jersey. Second prize: The second signed Wexford Jersey.

God bless the children from Scoil Aodan Naofa Carnew, who made their First Holy Communion on Sunday the 15th and Ballyroebuck National School, who made their communion on Saturday the 21st.

Coláiste Bhríde

Congratulations to the winner of the final Split the Pot draw. Florrie Bower from Main Street, Carnew won the jackpot of €719. There were four seller’s prize winners, they were Brid Doyle sixth year, Brendan Bolger fifth year, Harry Burke first year and Michael Butler fifth year. Carnew Agricultural Show Society will hold their annual show on Saturday, July 16 – more details to follow. Great to see it back again.

Golden Jubilee

Fr Joe Power from Kilrush is celebrating his Golden Jubilee on Sunday, May 29, at 2 p.m. in Kilrush followed by refreshments in Grennans Big Barn. Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Ger Nash all welcome. There will be no Mass in Kilrush at 10 a.m. on that day.

Chamber Music Recital

The second Chamber Music Recital is scheduled for Saturday, June 4, in the Pillared Drawing Room in Coollattin House. Refreshments from 7 p.m. Concert commencing at 7.30 p.m.

The programme will include Wind Quintet music of Mozart, Jacques Ibert, Samuel Barber, HK Schmid and Ferenc Farkas performed by the Fitzwilliam Ensemble featuring solo wind players of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
