“Don’t bother” was the message that Councillor Diarmuid Devereux wished to pass on to the CEO of Wexford County Council after a promise to install a paint disposal facility in Gorey went unfulfilled.

Speaking at the May meeting of Gorey Kilmuckridge Municipal District Meeting Council, Councillor Diarmuid Devereux said that he had received a promise from the CEO that he would deal with the issue of toxic paint tins, having raised the matter with him three times. Cllr Devereux said he had also raised the matter with the Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment SPC.

In the absence of a representative from the Environmental Department at the May meeting, Cllr Devereux asked his fellow members to pass on his message to the CEO.

“I just wanted you to take the message back to the CEO for me that he needn’t bother now because Wicklow County Council are going to sort that problem out now for people of north Wexford,” he said.

“If any of you are talking to the Chief Executive Officer, you can tell him I’ve absolved him of something he promised he would deliver.”

Chairperson Councillor Donal Kenny said that he agreed with the councillor, noting that it was something he has asked for since year one.
