Garda Exhibition

Wexford Garda Division will hold an exhibition of Garda memorabilia in Gorey Library next week to mark 100 years of the Gardaí in Wexford. The exhibition is open to all and on display in Gorey Library from Monday, August 8.

Golf Classic

The Friends of Local People with MS Charity Golf Classic will take place on Sunday, September 11 at Ballymoney Golf Club.

Gorey Active Retirement

Go For Life will be on July 26 and then will be closed until Tuesday, August 30. Bowls closed on Monday, July 11 and will reopen on Monday, August 29.

Here is a summary of our day trips for the remainder of this year. All can be booked and paid for in Loch Garman Arms on Friday mornings between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.

Note: On private bus, wear mask if you wish. On public transport, masks must be worn.

August 3. Mystery Trip. Meet at 10.15 a.m. at the Ashdown Park Hotel. €57 per person.

September 14: Dublin Zoo. Meet at 9.30 a.m. at the Ashdown Park Hotel, €38 per person. Have a leisurely wander around, treat yourself to lunch, see all the new areas.

October 26: A visit to the EPIC Emigration Museum. €16 per person entrance fee. Avail of your free travel pass, so no bus cost. All meet at the Customs House at 12 noon.

December 4: Christmas dinner/music Ashdown Park Hotel. From 6.30 p.m. Cost is €27 per person. Enjoy a lovely evening with friends, good food and dancing.

December 12: Waterford Winterval. Meet at 2 p.m. at the Ashdown Park Hotel. €26 per person. Enjoy the Christmas atmosphere in this wonderful city.

Treat yourself to dinner/evening meal in one of the lovely restaurants.

Colour Run

The Courtown Colour Run returns on Sunday, August 7 at 12 noon in Courtown. All ages can run, skip or walk around our 3km course, getting splatted in colourful paint.

All proceeds to Gorey Hockey Club’s Astro pitch. Register online at www.popupraces.ie. Cost to participate is €12 per person or €45 for a family of four.

Art exhibition

Gorey Art Circle is holding its annual Summer Exhibition in the Market House, Main Street Gorey from Saturday, July 23 to Sunday, August 7.

It will be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays.

Historical Society

North Wexford Historical Society’s next tour will be on Saturday, August 13 to Kells for a walking tour to see the high cross and round tower then on to Trim for a guided tour of Trim Castle. The tour will be led by John Nagle who you can contact on 086 3958655 to book your place. The bus will leave the Civic Centre at 7.45 a.m.

The cost of the tour is €35, only paid-up members of North Wexford Historical Society may travel on the day. However, new members wishing to join can do so on the day or contact the society through its email at northwexfordhistoricalsoc@gmail.com.

The annual North Wexford Historical Society weekend tour is back and this year we will be heading west of the Shannon. Leaving Gorey at 8 a.m. Saturday, September 3, there will be a short break in Enfield before visiting Athlone Castle Museum followed by lunch in Athlone.

In the afternoon, we drive to Castlebar to see the National Museum of Ireland’s extensive Rural Life Exhibition.

After an overnight stay in Castlebar there will be an morning drive to see the 5,000-year-old Céide Fields on the north coast of Mayo and then on to Ballina for lunch and the unique Jackie Clarke Exhibition, followed by a visit to the Michael Davitt Museum in Sraide.

Dinner on the way home will be in Roscommon and arrival back in Gorey will be around 10 p.m. on Sunday, September 4. Cost is €225 per person sharing (single supplement €50) to include bus, dinner Saturday, bed, breakfast and all admissions. Lunches and Sunday dinner not included.

Museum for families

Ballymore Historic Features Museum is an award-winning family museum featuring a picture gallery and display of 1798 memorabilia. It is currently open to visitors.

It is open in July and August on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., on bank holiday Mondays, or by appointment by phoning 086 354 1407 or the landline on 053 9383 189.

Open Library Service

My Open Library (MOL) at Gorey Library is back. We are inviting all service users (including previous My Open Library members) to book an induction; this can be done via the Wexford Libraries website or by phoning 053 9483820.

The MOL Service in Gorey Library offers extended opening hours by providing library access to MOL members from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. every day.

Staffed hours continue on the normal schedule. You must be 16 or over to register for this service. A parent or guardian must accompany 16 to 18 year olds to the induction appointment and also become an MOL member (each person must book a separate space on the induction appointment). Under 16’s can access only with a parent or guardian.

An ideal service for Leaving Certificate students, third level students, and busy families, all normal library services are available to MOL users, including free Wi-Fi, computer access, printing services, borrowing and study spaces.


The inaugural Kilanerin Flower Festival will take place from September 23 to September 25.

The festival, which is being coordinated by local parishioner Margaret Woodbyrne, will involve decorating our community and church grounds with over 100 colourful displays and arrangements.

The theme is the Circle of Life and displays will explore life, culture and the physical landscape of North Wexford. Families and friends of the parish are being given the opportunity to sponsor an arrangement.
