EXCEL Bridge Club may be a small and relatively new organisation, but its members certainly have generosity by the bucket load.
The club, which was established a little over a year ago, recently held its first fundraiser in aid of the Irish Red Cross. On seeing the devastation caused by the Turkey and Syria earthquake, the kind-hearted members decided that they wanted to do something, and the idea for the fundraiser was born. A charity game was held in St Michael’s Hall in February and attracted support from both members and those who wanted to give to the worthy cause.
The inaugural club fundraiser turned out to be a huge success, with a total of €475 raised on the day. A cheque for this amount was recently presented to a representative of the Irish Red Cross.
Chairperson of the club Kevin Conroy said that they were thrilled with the amount raised through the event, adding that they hope to run a fundraiser at least once a year.
Excel Bridge Club plays in the Pastoral Centre, St. Michael’s Church at 10.30 a.m. every Thursday. There is ample free parking for all players and a cup of tea/ coffee is available.
