The Allabair Trio concert

Ferns village will be the location of a very special concert on Sunday, June 4, at 7.30 p.m.

The Allabair Trio will be performing in St Edan’s Cathedral as part of the opening event of this year’s Festival of Ferns.

Obituaries

The Enniscorthy Guardian offers tribute obituary pieces for bereaved family members and friends within the local community who have recently experienced the loss of a loved one.

The weekly service is offered free of charge, with all obituaries completed in a manner that is sensitive to your own personal wishes and requests and they are written in full consultation with you at all times and at all stages. This ensures that they are a fitting tribute to the deceased person.

Please don’t hesitate to contact journalist Brendan Keane through brendan.keane@peoplenews.ie if an obituary tribute piece is something that you would like this newspaper to honour the memory of a loved one close to you who has passed away. Such tributes can also include a photograph of your loved one.

Men’s shed

Caim Men’s Shed is held on Wednesday mornings from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Choir members

The Bunclody-Kilmyshall Parish Choir meets in the Church of the Most Holy Trinity, Bunclody, every Tuesday evening at 7.30 p.m.

New members are always welcome to join.

Bunclody men’s shed

Bunclody Men’s Shed opening times are Monday and Friday, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and also on Wednesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Digital tutoring

Enniscorthy Library offers a special service which, through tutoring sessions, participants will be empowered to access the fantastic range of online library services, particularly BorrowBox which is used to download e-books and e-audiobooks to a phone, tablet or laptop/computer.

It will help familiarise participants to access the internet and assist them when downloading apps to help participate in the other online activities.

This service is by appointment only. If you would like to find out more or make an appointment, please register your details and the digital ambassador will contact you.

Pop-up Gaeltacht

There is a Pop-Up Gaeltacht held on the last Friday of every month in The Thatch, Kiltealy.

The events are open to everyone who has an interest in the Irish language.

The first two sessions were a great success, and everyone had very enjoyable nights on both occasions.

Everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of whether you are fluent or just have a couple of words of Irish and it’s all held in a very relaxed manner.

In addition to being an ideal way of brushing up on our native language the nights are also great social events because of their informal and very relaxed nature.

Fr Jim Byrne appreciation

Tig Leath Sli Bun Cloidi Cummann Luthchleas Gael is planning to hold an appreciation evening for Fr Jim Byrne in the Horse and Hound Hotel Ballinaboola on Bank Holiday Monday, June 5, at 3 p.m.

Fr Jim ministered in Bunclody parish from 1965 to 1981 and is the man that started underage/Rackard League football in the local club and schools.

That resulted in a lot of success in the 1970s and that in turn paved the way for senior success in the 1980s.

The event will provide a great opportunity for all former players and the parish to honour Fr Jim with his family and friends.

There will be a buffet lunch and entertainment with a focus on Bunclody.

Edermine RC 50th

Edermine Ferry rowing club is celebrating 50 years as a club this year and the committee is asking people who have old photographs relating to the club, from the 80s to 00s, to make contact with club chairperson, Bernie, on 087 9044472.

Ferns retirees

Ferns and District Active Retirement Association is now up and running and is actively encouraging prospective new members to participate and enjoy the events the organisation engages in.

Retirement boat trip

Blackwater Active Retirement (ARA) has arranged a scenic cruise on the River Barrow on Saturday, May 20, leaving the church car park at 9 a.m.

The all-in cost of participating on the trip is €45 per person.

Bree Summer Fest 2023

The ‘Bree Midsummer Fest’ will take place in Byrne’s Grain Store on Friday, June 9.

The event is sure to be one of the music highlights of the year and will feature a formidable line-up of artists, including The Tumbling Paddies, Stuart Moyles and Olivia Douglas.

Tickets for the event, priced €25, are now available at Hammel’s Centra, Bree, or through www.eventbrite.ie for €27.55.

All proceeds from the event will go towards Bree Community Centre.

Boolavogue committee

The new Parish Committee in Boolavogue for the coming year is now in place and is composed of: Chairperson - Aidan Gahan; Vice-Chair – John Dempsey; Secretary –

Yvonne Sweeney; Vice-Secretary – Cathal Burke, and Treasurer – Caroline Farrington.

Family mass

The monthly Family Mass will be celebrated in Castledockrell Church on Sunday, May 21, at 9.30 a.m.

Families are encouraged to go along, especially those who had or will have First Holy Communion or Confirmation in the family this year.

Galbally sports club

The following events are continuing every week in Galbally Sports and Leisure Club: Yoga with Julie, on Mondays, at 7 p.m.; Hip Hop classes on Tuesdays, at 4.45 p.m. Dancing with Declan takes place on Friday nights with beginners’ classes from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. and everyone welcome to attend for more dancing from 8 p.m. to 9.30 p.m. The Sports and Leisure Club is one of the most active groups of its type in the county and encourages people to use the hall.
