Last week, in Marty’s Pub, she handed over €1,600 for the upkeep of St Mochua’s, for which the parish is most grateful. Over the years, so many charities and good causes have benefitted from Joan’s amazing and tireless efforts.

Church news

Weekend Masses – Oylegate Church on Saturday at 6 p.m. and Sunday at 10.30 a.m. Glenbrien church on Saturday 7.30 p.m. and Sunday at 9.30 a.m.

Weekly Envelope Boxes 2022 – The boxes are now available in the church for your collection. Contributions to the weekly envelopes make up a vital part of the church income. Even during the months of lockdown, many people continued to be generous to this collection.

This has meant that we were able to keep the lights on during a difficult year and that we were able to continue to pay our bills. Baptised Catholics in a parish community who are in a financial position to do so are invited to make donations for the upkeep of their local church.

I want to make a special appeal to those who do not contribute to this collection by way of envelopes to consider doing so by an annual cheque or by standing order or direct debit. We make many of our payments in this way in the normal course of life. The bank details are: Bank of Ireland, Abbey Square, Enniscorthy, BIC: BOFIIE2D IBAN: IE44 BOFI 906566 24140788.

When you donate a total of €250 in a given year, the parish can make a claim to Revenue under the Charitable Donations scheme. Again, many thanks to all who have supported this collection.

Eucharistic Adoration – The Adoration before the Blessed Sacrament currently takes place in the Prayer Room on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to midday. Going forward, it is hoped to extend the hours till 2 p.m. People, who have been involved in the past or new people who would be willing to become involved should contact Kathleen Fitzgerald or Ann McEvoy.

Car parking in Oylegate Church Grounds – The parking area in the church grounds is primarily for use by those attending church services, visiting the cemetery or Prayer Gardens. An increasing number of vehicles are now using the area for all day parking. This will limit parking space for funerals.

Perhaps, it is time to ask for donations from those who are availing of this facility. In general, proper regulations need to be put in place for all vehicles using the facility. Many are driving in the grounds at dangerous speeds.

Some individuals are discarding litter from their vehicles which is doing nothing to enhance the overall appearance of the area. We should not have to continually clean-up other people’s litter who are availing of the facility for free.

Parish office – The office is now open on Monday, and Wednesday: 9.30 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. and on Fridays from 9.30 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.
