Memorial Walk/Run

5k/10k walk/run takes place on Sunday next June 5th at 12.30 pm raising money for three vital charities in memory of the late Dee Ronan. Registration will be on Saturday in Jordan’s Lounge between 6–8 pm and on the day from 11 am in Ballindaggin Community Hall. Entry fee €20. Refreshments, raffle and entertainment afterwards until late. Signed Leinster jersey will be auctioned on the night. Please join us for a great day out and support a worthy cause.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of the late James (Jim) Doyle, Maynooth and formerly of Ballindaggin which occurred on Thursday May 26th. Burial took place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Enniscorthy following the funeral Mass in Ballindaggin Church. May he rest in peace.

First Holy Communion

First Holy Communion took place in St. Colman’s Church, Ballindaggin on Saturday last May 28th when 19 children received the Sacrament watched by their parents, teachers and family members. Congratulations to them all.

Ballindaggin Field Evening

After a two year break Ballindaggin Development Group are holding a field evening on Friday June 17th at 7 pm in the school grounds. Parking will be in the village car park at the Church. It promises to be a great fun evening out for all the family with many attractions including bottle stall, cake stall, brick-a-brack, shop, teas, pony rides, children’s races and many more attractions.

There will also be a timber sale and timber auction. Admission is free, so come and enjoy a great evening out. With the increase in insurance and some maintenance work to be carried out in the park we’re asking everyone for their support especially those who use the park.

Pop Up Garda Station

The next date the gardai will be available in Kiltealy Hall is Monday next June 6th between 10 and 11.30 am and every second Monday after that.

Split the pot

Winner of Kiltealy N.S. split the pot last week was Pat O’Brien, Askinvillar who won €120. Kiltealy school would like to thank all for your continued support, it is much appreciated.

Clothes collection

The next collection of used clothes for Kiltealy N.S. will be on June 27th. So lots of time to tidy your wardrobes. The school shelter will be open the previous week during school hours for dropping in bags of clothes.


Rathanna Drama Group will stage their 3 act comedy ‘A Wake in the West’ by Michael J. Ginnelly in Rathanna Hall tomorrow night Thursday June 2nd, Saturday June 4th, Sunday 5th and Monday 6th at 8 pm each night. Admission €10.


Castledockrell N.S.

The “Tractor Run and Family Fun Day” held in Castledockrell on Sunday, 22nd May was a huge success and a thoroughly enjoyable day for the community. The event went above and beyond our expectations and we sincerely thank each of you who made the day possible and contributed in anyway.

There are simply too many people and organisations to thank individually from the stewards, to the route planners, the bakers, the “tea ladies”, the stall holders, the entertainers, all who sponsored prizes/cakes/bottles etc and of course the army of volunteers who worked tirelessly in the lead up to and on the day itself. We give a collective, heartfelt thank you to you all.

Events like this really showcase the community spirit is alive and well in Castledockrell. It was a special day in memory of a special man.

We hope you all enjoyed the day and we thank you again for your generosity and support.

Marshalstown Patron

It was lovely to the “normal” Patron in Marshalstown again after two years without it due to covid restrictions. The graves look really well for the occasion. Thanks to all who keep the cemetery in such good shape the whole year. Your work is very much appreciated by the commented upon by those visiting the cemetery for the Patron and funerals.


Sympathy is extended to the family and relatives of the late Nancy Doyle (Nee Redmond). May she Rest in Peace.

Vigil Mass on Saturdays (and Holydays) is in Marshalstown Church at 7.30p.m. Sundays (and Holydays) Mass is in Castledockrell Church at 10a.m. All Church services and Masses in Marshalstown Church are on the webcam. Please book anniversary Masses well in advance if possible. They may be booked in the normal way.


Congratulations to the families who celebrated the baptism of the new additions to their families over the last few weeks and also to those who welcomed new babies recently. May they bring much happiness to their families.

Get Well

Get well wishes to all from the Parish who have had surgery or started treatment over the last few weeks. You are all being remembered in the prayers of many.

Notes Deadline

Notes deadline is now Sunday 6p.m. (time I need the notes by) and 6p.m. Thursday for Bank Holiday weekends as The Enniscorthy Guardian is now in the shops on Wednesdays. Items received after that time will be included in the following week’s notes if date of event has not passed.

Lotto Results

Marshalstown Castledockrell GAA Club lotto results for Thursday, 26th May are numbers chosen 9, 19, 22, 29. Jackpot of €13,200 was not won. Two luck dip winners Donal Byrne & Mrs K Roche win €50 each. Thanks for your continued support.



The local community was saddened to learn of the death of Noreen Reilly, Westport and Oulart, who passed to her eternal reward in the Bon Secours Hospital, Dublin on Sunday, May 22.

Noreen was the beloved partner of Richard Devereux and loving sister of Breda, Christena, Michael and Eamonn to whom heartfelt sympathy is extended. She was predeceased by her parents James and Margaret and brother Séamus.

Following her funeral Mass in St Patrick’s Church, Oulart on Wednesday the 25th Noreen was laid to rest in the local cemetery. Solas na bhFlaitheas dá hanam.

Coffee morning/Cake Sale

Oulart Community Centre committee is appealing to local people to help in their efforts to raise vital funds. During the last two years, on account of Covid lock-down, the community centre has been unable to generate any funds while at the same time, the expenses such as insurance, maintenance etc have still to be met.

Committee members have organised a cake sale/Coffee Morning for Sunday, June 5, while, on the same day, a raffle will also take place, with tickets on sale in local businesses beforehand.

Cash donations would also be most gratefully accepted, boxes will be in local shops for voluntary contributions and of course, donations may be handed to any committee member. And, the best news of all is that the community centre is back open for business.

Oulart split-the-pot

Congratulations to Mikey and Max Roche, who won €77 in the latest draw. The next draw will be held on May 30. The parents’ association would like to remind you of the field day after the patron in Oulart and appeal for your support.

Celebrating the Battle of Oulart Hill 1798.

The ‘Evening of Music’ at Tulach a’ tSolais on Oulart Hill on the evening of Saturday, May 28, was an outstanding success. Musicians, singers and reciters attended and entertained the appreciative audience from 7.30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Among the musicians were keyboard player, Lilly May Tohill, Oulart and harpist Tara Cushe, Gorey (daughter of former Wexford full-back Ger). Local County councillor Mary Farrell, who has strong Oulart connections, brought the audience on a musical/singing tour around Ireland as well as giving a rousing rendition of ‘Boolavogue’.

Many of the entertainers present are regulars at the house of stories, Oulart and they gave their usual polished performance and brought the show to a close with Amhrán na bh.

Fiain. Fear a’Tí, John Dempsey thanked the performers and invited all present to refreshments in the house of stories.

Bygone Days House Re-opens

Following the long lockdown, The Storytelling House in Lower Oulart will re-open its doors on June 13 to welcome back musicians, singers, storytellers, friends, neighbours and the general public. All the usual entertainment and craic will be on offer as well as traditional refreshments. Beidh fáilte roimh cách.

Model County draws

The second and third club and Co. draws of 2022 took place last week. Congratulations to Mary Fortune, Derry, The Ballagh on winning a €200 Voucher for McCauley Health and Beauty Pharmacy. Thank you to all who supported the annual fundraiser.

Oulart Active Retired

Oulart Active Retired meet in Oulart Community Centre on Tuesdays, 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., when bowls are played. New members are always welcome to join the Active Retired. Just turn up on any Tuesday or ring Mary O’Grady for full details (087 9361325).

Joan and Friends Charity Day

On Sunday, June 5, Joan Kavanagh and friends have organised a Tractor and Car Run in the Ballagh at midday and later, at 4 p.m. you are invited to do a 5km Run, Walk or Jog in aid of Wexford’s Women’s Refuge and St Mochua’s Chapel, Oulart. The Ballagh National School

The Ballagh split-the-pot draw is held every Saturday. It costs only €2 to enter and the winner gets half the pot. A new addition to the draw is called ‘Upfront’ whereby you can pay €20 in advance which entitles you to entry in 11 draws for the price of 10.

Annual Patrons

After an absence of two years, the annual patron and blessing of graves will return to the parish and will be held in Oulart on the last Sunday in June and in the Ballagh on the first Sunday in July.

Oulart field day

Scoil Mochua, Oulart is delighted to announce the return of the field day on the afternoon of Sunday, June 26, immediately after the patron. They are looking for volunteers to help out on the day. So if you are the parent of a past or present pupil and would like to be involved please contact Marianne at 086 8147525.

Coffee morning in aid of Ukraine

The Slaney Inn will host a coffee morning in aid of Ukraine on June 6 from 10 a.m. to midday. All proceeds will go to the Irish Red Cross Ukraine Emergency Appeal.

Collection thanks

The Wexford Mental Health Association would like to thank most sincerely those who contributed to their church gate collection held in January this year. The collection was a great success across the county. The appreciate that in present times, money is tight but yet the people of Co. Wexford are so generous. The total amount collected in Oylegate was €157.34 and the total amount collected in Glenbrien was €286.90.

Glenbrien Patron

This will take place on Sunday, June 26. Prayers and the blessing of graves will take place in the cemetery at 2 p.m., to be followed with the blessing of graves around the church.

If you wish to have your deceased remembered on the List of the Dead read out during the Prayers, please drop in the list to the sacristy at weekend Masses or to the Parochial House in Oylegate.

GAA club news

The club extends congratulations to Méanscoil Gharman and especially Cian Heffernan grandson of Séamus on their wonderful achievement in the national Junk Kouture school’s competition, they are now in a wild card competition to progress to the world competitions, please use the link on our Facebook page to vote.

Baby and Toddler Group

Glenbrien Baby and Toddler Group has resumed gathering every Tuesday during Primary School Term-Time in Glenbrien Old School Community Centre from 9.15 a.m. – 10.45 a.m. This is an opportunity for young children and their carers (parents/grandparents/childminders) to meet.
