Patron Masses

The Patron Masses will take place in the parish on the first weekend of July. Clonegal Mass is on Saturday, July 2, at 6.30 p.m. and in Kildavin Mass is on Sunday, July 3, at 11.30 a.m.

People of the parish are reminded that graves should be tidy and if we know of a grave that no longer has anyone to look after it we should make sure that it is clean also.

Veteran Players

The Clonegal Kildavin Veteran Players are hosting an information evening at 8 p.m. in the Spellman Hall Kildavin on Tuesday, June 28. A member of the Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland and Carlow Development partnership will outline the various schemes and supports available to retrofit your property. Their presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.

Centenary of Foundation of State – Work is well under way on the Veteran Players publication to mark the Centenary of the foundation of the state. We are grateful to all who offered their stories and insights so far. Cumann na mBunscol finals

Congratulations to the boys and girls of Clonegal and Kildavin National Schools, who reached the cumann na mBunscol camogie and hurling finals. They faced off against each other on Thursday evening in the centre of Excellence in Fenagh. Clonegal NS won the camogie final and Kildavin NS won the hurling final. Well done to all involved.

Clonegal Tidy Village Association

Clonegal Tidy Village Association will hold their next meeting on Wednesday (tomorrow) in St Brigid’s Hall, Clonegal at 7 p.m.

House of Song and Story

The House of Song and Story will be held in Osbornes, Clonegal on Tuesday, June, 28 at 8 p.m.

Deepest Sympathy

It was with the greatest sadness that the people of the parish learned the passing of Margaret (née O’Hara) Roche, Monaughrim, Clonegal, who passed away on Saturday, June 11. Beloved wife of the late Michael and mother of Mary, Margaret and Kathleen. Sadly missed her daughters, six grandchildren, great granddaughter, sons-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends. Reposed from Lennon’s Funeral Home Bunclody. Removal from her residence to St Brigid’s Church, Clonegal, for funeral Mass. Burial afterwards in the adjoining cemetery. May Margaret rest in peace.

It was with the greatest sadness that the people of the parish learned the passing of Martin Doyle, Terenure Dublin, Croagh, Limerick and formerly of Ballinvalley, Kildavin. Martin passed away peacefully in the wonderful care of St James’s Hospital June 10. Beloved partner and soulmate of Helen, stepfather to Gareth and Caitriona, and father of Robert, Patricia and Barry. Sadly missed by sisters Bridie, Olive and Mary, brothers Jim and Tom, his grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Reposed from Flanagan’s Funeral Home, Rathfarnham, on Tuesday, June 14. Requiem Mass was held on Wednesday in St Lazerian’s Church, Kildavin, Carlow. Burial afterwards in Kildavin New Cemetery. May Martin rest in peace.

Cloughbawn Patron

The annual patron returns to the normal time of 2 p.m., on July 10 with usual attraction in the adjoining field. Raffle tickets will be available in local shops and on the field on the day of the event. Items for bric-à-brac may be left with Nancy Foley before Saturday, July 9.

Tractor Run

A tractor run in aid of Clonroche NS will take place on July 1 at 7.30 p.m., leaving the GAA grounds in Castleboro. For details please contact Leo at 087 2464479.

Cloughbawn GAA

The numbers drawn in the recent lotto draw were 1, 5, 9 and 22 There was no jackpot winner, three matched three numbers, Linda Kehoe, Lelia Kavanagh and Willie Moore Gurrawn. The next draw is on Friday, July 7, Well done to Cloughbawn Intermediate camogie team who had a comfortable win over Oylegate 2-20 to 1-7 in the league semi-final in Cloughbawn.


Golf Classic

Ferns Be Friendly

Ferns Be Friendly is a voluntary telephone befriending service in the Ferns area for people experiencing loneliness or isolation. Enquires to 087 1691919.

Ferns Castle has now reopened and all are very welcome. Free tours available. Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily.

Active Retirement AGM

The AGM of Ferns District Active Retirement will be held on Thursday, July 14, at 2.30 p.m at Kinbark Nurseries Carriglegan, Camolin. Transport can be arranged from Ferns Church car park if required. Please contact Colm (086 3866582) or Mary (087 2617847).

The agenda will include a planned day trip and lunch on Thursday, July 21. New members are very welcome to come along and enjoy the benefits the association offers.


Bishop’s visit

Bishop Ger Nash received a warm welcome on his first visit to the parish last weekend beginning at the Parish Church Ballindaggin to celebrate 6 pm vigil Mass. Immediately afterwards he headed to Kiltealy Church where he celebrated the vigil Mass there followed by refreshments in Kiltealy Hall. On Sunday morning he celebrated Mass in Caim Church and then returned to Ballindaggin for the 11.30 am Mass concluding the weekend with refreshments in Ballindaggin Hall.

Bishop Nash spoke at each Mass and thanked the people for their warm welcome. A native of county Clare he said he was ordained 31 years ago and was honoured to be chosen as Bishop of Ferns last September. In his lengthy homily he spoke of the declining number of priests in Ireland and said there are 3 or 4 parishes in Ferns diocese that have no priest or are on the verge of having no priest.

He said we have to plan for the future by re-organising parishes and lay ministers so a small number of priests can get through the work. He thanked the people of the parish for their tremendous welcome and said he is looking forward to visiting again in the future.

Coffee morning

Templeshanbo Parish is holding a coffee morning, raffle and bring and buy sale in The Parish Hall, Templeshanbo on Friday July 8th from 10 am to 12 noon to raise funds for the refugee community from Ukraine currently living in Enniscorthy. Your support would be appreciated.

Rackard League champions

Congratulations to the girls of Ballindaggin, Kiltealy and Caim on their great win in the Rackard League final, Roinn A. The girls defeated a strong Piercestown side on a scoreline of 0-7 to 0-4.

Their skill and determination has been years in the making, a testament of the work put in at club level, in their schools and at home. They are a credit to their coaches, teachers and parents and everyone is proud of their achievement. Many thanks to coaches Jim Cooper, Jim Hanrahan, Ms. Duff and Ms. Dillon. Well done girls.

Ballindaggin Field Evening

Beautiful weather favoured the recent field evening held in the school grounds in Ballindaggin village, there was a large attendance present and the event was very successful.

Raffle winners: 1st prize of a two night Hotel break for two (sponsored by Riverside Park Hotel) was won by Yvonne O’Connor, Shroughmore who also won the 2nd prize of a fuel voucher for €250 (sponsored by Glen Fuels). 3rd prize dinner for 2 (sponsored by Holy Grail) Bernie Walsh, Ballinacoola. 4th prize Glanbia voucher Aaron Walsh, Templeshanbo. Other prize winners Bridie Dempsey, St. Colman’s Park and Jim Breslin, Marshalstown.

The Ballindaggin Development group would like to thank all the volunteers who worked on the various stalls, games and with the pony rides and bouncy castle, also Sean Nolan who supplied the timber which was auctioned. Total profit after expenses was €4,335.

Blackstairs Playschool

Blackstairs community playschool are now accepting enrolments for September 2022. If your child is aged two years and five months or older and you would like to enrol them for Sept. please contact Linda O’Leary on 087-9012194.

The playschool will have their graduation this Friday July 1st when the 6 girls and 3 boys will take part in a lovely celebration in the playschool with their families organised by playschool manager Linda O’Leary and her staff. Best of luck to the children as they get ready to begin primary school in September.

Kiltealy School

The sixth class pupils had their graduation Mass last week accompanied by their family and friends. Following Mass there was a barbecue and refreshments in Kiltealy Hall, everyone much enjoyed the evening. We wish them well for the future. Children from the junior classes had a great outing to Kilkenny Reptile Zoo and Kilkenny Sports Hub last Friday, all came home tired after a wonderful day out.

The school had their end of year Mass this morning Wednesday June 29th after which the school closed for the summer holidays. Winners of Kiltealy N.S. split the pot last week were Dillon and Deborah Cooper who won €120.

Art classes

Selin Kim is holding art classes in Kiltealy Community Hall for children aged 4–13 years every saturday morning from 10 am to 12 noon. Cost €15 session or €80 for block of six sessions. All learning and art materials are included in the fee. Contact 087-3247116 or email selin88@live.com

Ballindaggin Development Group are holding a car treasure hunt around the area on Monday evening August 1st (bank holiday). The first treasure hunt for many years in the area. Details to follow.

Know Your Neighbours

A great community event takes place in Ballycarney on Saturday, 23rd July. Come along and meet those living in our area. Tea, coffee and home baking and hot chocolate for the children on the day. Hosted by Ballycarney Development Group for the people of Ballycarney and surrounding areas. Coffee morning in The Old Post Office, Ballycarney Y21H1K2 on Saturday, 23rd July 10-11.30a.m. All proceeds on the day to the group will be put back into our area to develop and maintain amenities.

Pop up Garda Station

Notice from An Garda Síochána–Enniscorthy Gardaí will hold a pop-up Garda Station in Marshalstown Community Centre on Monday 11th July from 2.15–3.30p.m.

Wedding Bells

Marshalstown Castledockrell GAA Club lotto results for Thursday, 23rd June are numbers chosen were 5, 11, 16, 32 Jackpot of €13,600 was not won. There was one Match 3 winner Kenneth Ryan who won €100. Thanks for your continued support.


Vigil Mass on Saturdays (and Holydays) is in Marshalstown Church at 7.30p.m. Sundays (and Holydays) Mass is in Castledockrell Church at 10a.m. All Church services and Masses in Marshalstown Church are on the webcam. Please book anniversary Masses well in advance if possible. They may be booked in the normal way.

Notes Deadline

Notes deadline is now Sunday 6p.m. (time I need the notes by) and 6p.m. Thursday for Bank Holiday weekends as The Enniscorthy Guardian is now in the shops on Wednesdays. Items received after that time will be included in the following week’s notes if date of event has not passed.
