Mayoral Campaign–Louise Lawless

Louise Lawless’s ‘Big Breakfast’, held in the Fr. Murphy Centre last Sunday, in aid of her mayoral campaign, was a massive success. Starting at 9.00am it ran full pelt until almost 1.00pm with huge platters of delicious food served up by a cheery crew as fast as could be.

She would like to thank everyone who who gave up their time and helped organise, cook, serve or clean up after the tasty feast. She would also like to say very special thanks the host venue and also to all her very generous sponsors. And of course she would like to especially thank all those who turned up on the day and supported this fundraiser.

Reports of her husband Alex fleeing in the direction of Ballyedmond on a bike shortly after 1.00pm, with his head on the handlebars and his rear end in the air, pumping the pedals a hard as he could, in order to escape from the washing-up cannot be verified. Some say he was only heading to the Schooner for a pint.

As part of the ‘Big Breakfast’, the prize in the associated raffle was drawn and the huge hamper went to Sarah Stacey, Dranagh.

Louise’s next event will be a Golf Classic, held on the 1st. of July in Ballymoney Golf Club. for further information and to book a slot, please contact the Golf Club on 0539421976. The prizes for the competition will be presented in Kelly’s, The Harrow, on Saturday the 2nd of July at 9.00pm.

The following day, Louise is hosting a Concert in St. Cormac’s Church, Boolavogue, with a variety of talented artists taking part. Further details of this fundraiser will follow.

Louise would like to wish her rival, Jimmy ‘Shugs’ Gahan, the very best of luck with the opening event in this mayoral campaign.

Mayoral Campaign–Jimmy ‘Shugs’ Gahan

Jimmy’s campaign, kicks off with a Talent Competition, which will take place this weekend, Saturday the 4th. of June in Kelly’s, The Harrow. The ‘Stars in Your Eyes’ show will feature local luminaries as well as foreginers from a far away as The Ballagh, Screen and Monageer. Your Bank Holiday weekend enjoyment will be enhanced no end by attending this high-art cultural event.

Secrecy still surrounds Jimmy’s ‘Dip-in-the-Nip’ fundraiser. It can be confirmed that it will take place this Sunday, the 5th. of June. He, Jimmy, also refers to it a ‘Chunky Dunk’ but many say he’s just bragging. Contact Jimmy on the phone number below in order to get a sponsorship card. Only those who get a sponsorship card will get full details of the event. Extremely generous donors will be contacted as to the time and location of the perilous plunge. As Jimmy says, ‘Everyting has its price, especially information.’ As well as contributing to Jimmy’s campaign, you will also be making a donation to research into Prostate Cancer.

Jimmy is also organising a Pool Tournament in Kelly’s, The Harrow, on Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th. of June. The entry fee is only €15 and the top prize is €500. The competition gets underway at 4.00pm on the Saturday but last entries must be in by Thursday the 9th. School News

The Monageer-Boolavogue schools’ Rackard League camogie team have added the District camogie title to the football crown they won earlier this term. They took on a very talented Loreto Gorey side in Camolin on Wednesday last, the 25th. of May and beat them by 5-0 to 0-0. The following day, they were very proud to parade their trophy around all the classrooms in the school, hopefully inspiring the younger girls to follow their example.

The school would like to thank Mick Whelan, a former pupil, who taught and delivered the ‘Inspiring Young Minds–It’s My Business’ programme in the school over the past number of weeks. The pupils learned about entrepreneurship, setting up a business, creating competitive advantage, marketing, advertising and financial investment. As part of the programme, the pupils had to come up with a business idea and pitch it to a panel of ‘Dragons’.
