Tara Bishop 5K Memorial Run

The Tara Bishop 5K Memorial Run for Temple Street Hospital and Ballymurn National School will take place on Sunday, May 29, in Ballymurn at midday.

All proceeds will be split equally between Temple Street Hospital and Ballymurn National School. All money raised will go directly to both causes as all our expenses will be covered by our new sponsor Kilmallock Developments Ltd.

GAA Club lotto

This week lotto numbers were 5, 19, 16 and 27. No jackpot winner, two match-three winners: the Dymond family and Jean Cloney. Next week’s lotto €10,000.

Tidy Towns

We meet on Tuesdays and Saturdays at 10.30 a.m. on the bridge. All welcome to join in keeping Blackwater beautiful and clean. We are looking for volunteers as we are coming into our very busy season. Any queries please call 086 8386242 or speak to anyone in our group.


Mayoral Campaign

This coming Sunday, the 22nd of May, a famous figure with Boolavogue connections will be performing the official opening of Tobar Geal Lane, ‘The Bog Lane’ at 2.00pm as part of Louise Lawless’s Mayoral campaign.

Please come along and join Louise in a healthy walk around the block, starting at St. Cormac’s Church and returning to the start via the newly surfaced lane and Ballytracey. There will be refreshments, and no doubt a chin wag, in the Fr. Murphy Centre aftewards.

There is no charge for taking part but Louise’s support staff and political advisors will be soliciting generous donations with a bucket collection. As well a refreshments, there will be a cake sale in the Fr. Murphy Centre and donations to this would be gratefully received. Items for the cake sale can be dropped into Boolavogue P.O. all day Saturday or on Sunday morning.

Big Big Breakfast

And then, the following weekend, Sunday the 29th., Lousie will be hosting a ‘Big Big Breakfast’ in the Fr. Murphy Centre from 9.00am until 1.00pm. This will be a full Irish breakfast, with all the trimmings and unlimited refills of tea or coffee if needed. The cost is only €10 per adult or €5 per child and it will be a great chance to see old friends for a relaxing chat after the pandemic. Do come along and support this worthy cause, view the centre and enjoy the scenery, the serenity, the succulent sausages and puddings par-excellence in a tremendous setting.

School News

Congratulations to the pupils of 5th. and 6th. Class who received the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday last, the 15th. of May, at 11.00am Mass in St. Cormac’s Church. A very special thanks to Ms. O’Leary and Fr.

Clothes Collection

The school is organising another fundraising clothing collection and bags of clothes will be collected from the school on Wednesday the 8th. of June. Bags of clean used clothes can be left into the school for storing until the collection date.


Billy Browne Cup Win

Congratulatons to the players and management of Bree United who won the Billy Browne Cup last Saturday. They beat Ballymurn 2-1 after extra time in the final played in Ferrycarrig Park.

Parish Gathering Invitation

As the next steps are taken towards forming a Parish Pastoral Council for the parish of Bree, Galbally and Ballyhogue, all members of the parish community are invited to an information evening being held in The Pastoral Centre at Bree Parish Church on Thursday, May 26th @ 7.30 pm. There will be a guest speaker from an established pastoral council in attendance and opportunity will be provided for parishioners to ask questions and offer ideas should they wish. Your attendance would be very much welcomed.

Galbally Tractor Run

Galbally Tractor and Vintage Run returns this year and will take place on Sunday 29th May, commencing with registration at 12 noon in Galbally Community Centre with the run starting at 1 pm. Refreshments will be served in the Community Centre afterwards. All support would be greatly appreciated. Volunteers are needed to help with stewarding on the day- please let Jim Rochford know if you can help. Also help in the kitchen and donations of cakes/sandwiches and raffle prizes would be greatly appreciated.

Ballyhogue GAA Lotto

The numbers drawn in the GAA Lotto for Wed 11th May were No=92s 7, 8, 15, 26. No Jackpot winner. Match 3 winners were Neil Murphy, Denny Tyrrell, Shane Dawson and Rosemary Redmond. Next draw is 25th May with a Jackpot of €1,600.

Pop Up Garda Station

Come and join Garda Richenda Sinnott and Garda Cristian Dorneanu from the Community Policing Unit of Enniscorthy Garda Station at their Pop Up Station in Bree Community Centre every fortnight 2pm to 3.30pm. Please feel free to pop in to say hello, or with any concerns you want to discuss. Application forms such as passport , driving licence etc are available in the hall and assistance offered if needed. Next pop up is Wednesday May 25th.

Clothing Collection

Scoil Mhuire Ballyhogue will be holding a fundraising clothes collection on Wednesday June 8th. All donations can be dropped to the school on the morning. Used clothing, belts, bags, shoes, household textiles and soft toys are all accepted. We thank you for your continued support.

Bree AC had another successful day on Day 3 of the Mr Oil County Athletic Championships in Enniscorthy Hub. A big thank you again to Wexford Athletics for a brilliant day of athletics.

Community Games

Bree-Davidstown-Cloughbawn Community Games will hold their local athletics trials in Enniscorthy Hub On Friday, 27thMay. Registration is 5.30pm to start at 6.30pm sharp. Children must be from one of those three parishes and must be underage on 1st Aug, ie U8 may not celebrate their 8th birthday before 1st Aug 2022.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place in Caim Church every Monday from 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.


Sympathy is extended to the family, relatives and friends of Mary Slevin, Caim, whose funeral took place in Caim. May she rest in peace.

Kildavin Community Meeting

The Carlow County Council Community Liaison Officer is available to meet people clubs and organisations in the Spellman Hall Kildavin at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, to discuss the supports and funding available to enhance the community and the life of its people. The meeting is being facilitated by Clonegal Kildavin Veteran Players and we ask as many people as possible to come along to discuss a vision for your community. This is not a meeting to recruit volunteers and attendees may leave without obligation.

House of song and Story

The house of song and Story will be held in Osbornes, Clonegal on Tuesday, May, 24 at 8 p.m.

Ardattin Fundraiser – Thank you

Ardattin Fundraiser would like to thank everyone that walked, helped out and gave donations and raffle prizes to our very successful walk on Easter Monday. A total of €1,695 was raised for Carlow/Kilkenny Home Care Team.

The Cemetery patron in Poulpeasty will return to its pre-covid weekend this year. It will be on the evening of Friday, June 3rd ( time to be confirmed)

There was no winner of the lotto jackpot. Niall Doran was the only winner on 3 numbers, the numbers drawn were 1,8,9,24 Jackpot still stands at 10,000 next draw on Friday May 27th.
