Sincere thanks to all those who have contributed to the Silver Circle Fundraiser for Phase 1 of the construction of the Crossabeg Ballymurn Community Centre.

Phase 1 of our long overdue project is complete and all that’s left is a small bit of snagging. We will be ready shortly to open our doors to the community to use and enjoy the facilities.

The Silver Circle 2021/ 2022 Monthly Bumper Draw will be officially launched on Saturday 24th June @ 7.00pm. Please come along and get a tour of the facilities.

Slaney Olympic Summer League

Slaney Olympic AC will have their Ballymurn Training Run on Friday 24th June (7.30pm start). Registration in the Parish Hall.

Slaney members €5, non slaney members €5 from 6.30pm to 7.20pm. Open to all AAL Members and people looking to join Slaney Olympic. Tea/Coffee afterwards.

Patron dates

Patrons will take place this year in Crossabeg on Saturday 2nd July and in Ballymurn on Sunday 14th August.

Community Policing popup Station

Enniscorthy Community policing popup station will be in Ballymurn hall on Monday 27th June from 10am to 11.30am.

Active Retirement

Dates for the diary – June 22: Trip to Johnston Castle with tour of house. Meet in the car park at 10.30 a.m.

July 23: Day trip to Waterford, coach leaves church car park at midday. Visiting Japanese Gardens Tramore, followed by trip to Kilcohan for meal and dog racing. We still have a few seats available – phone Catherine at 087 6141521.

Autumn holiday October 2 to October 6: five-day trip to Westport Woods Hotel Spa and leisure centre. Return transfers from pick up point in Blackwater. Annual Patron

The Annual Patron in St. Cormac’s cemetery, first in three years, will be held on Sunday next the 26th. of June at 2.00pm. Depending on the weather, Mass for the repose of those laid to rest in the cemetery will be celebrated at 2.00pm followed by the blessing of the graves. If the weather is not suitable, the Mass will take place in St. Cormac’s church. All those with family graves in the cemetery are asked to tidy them for the Patron and to bring all rubbish home with them please. There will be the usual graveyard collection at the entrance to the cemetery and you generous contributions would be gratefully received.

Field Day

The annual Parish Field Day, again the first in three years, will be held in the curate’s field, beside St. Cormac’s Church after the Patron. The usual stalls and entertainments will feature including the Wheel of Fortune, Bric-a-Brac stall, Bottle Stall and Cake Stall. Donations of home produce for the Cake Stall can be left into Boolavogue P.O. or the back of St. Cormac’s church on Saturday evening or Sunday morning after the 8.00pm 11.00am Masses. All proceeds from the Graveyard Collection and the Parish Field Day will go only to the running of St. Cormac’s Parish.


Sincere sympathy is extended from all in Boolavogue to the late Kathy Doran (neé O’Brien), South Wales and formerly of Mt. George, who died on the 6th. of June. She is survived by her husband, Mike and her cremation took take place in Pontypridd, Wales on Tuesday, 21st of June.

Missing bell

The altar handbell, used during Mass has gone missing from St Cormac’s. This small hand-held bell has been used for generations during Masses and if anyone knows of its whereabouts, could they please contact Kathy Coughlan or Fr. White C.C.


Sincere sympathy is also extended from all to the Gahan family, Raheendarrig, on the death of Eileen Gahan (neé Breen), who died peacefully in Valentia Nursing Home on Thursday last, the 16th. of June. Predeceased by her loving husband Shay, sons Aidan and Pat, sisters Mary and Maggie, she is survived by her children Ger, Breda and Anne, daugher-in-law, son-in-law, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Her remains reposed at her residence on Friday from 2.00pm with removal to St. Cormac’s Church at 7.30pm. Her Requiem Mass was celebrated on Saturday at 11.00am with burial in the adjoining cemetery afterwards.

Mayoral Campaign–Louise Lawless

Louise Lawless has added another exciting fundraiser to her campaign to become Mayor of Boolavogue. She is hosting a ‘ladies only’ night in the Fr. Murphy Centre on Friday the 29th. of July, starting at 7.30pm sharp. Music will be provided by Pat Hayes and you are promised an amazing evening’s entertainment full of surprises. Hot food, tea and coffee will be provided and you are welcome to bring along your own refreshments. Entry is strictly by ticket and only a limited quantity of these are availabe at €25 each from Louise, Boolavogue Post Office or any memmber of Louise’s committee.

Her Golf Classic (scramble) which will be held on Friday the 1st. of July in Ballymoney Golf Club. For further information and to book a slot, please contact the Golf Club on 0539421976. The prizes for the competition will be presented in Kelly’s, The Harrow, on Saturday the 2nd of July at 9.00pm.

The following day, Sunday the 3rd. of July, Louise is hosting a Concert in St. Cormac’s Church, Boolavogue, starting at 7.30pm, with a variety of talented artists taking part. These will include George Lawlor, The Gallery Choir of St. Iberius, Session Sisters & Friends, Lorcan & Lorraine Dunne, Patrick Murphy, Mary Crosbie, Martin Fortune while the M.C. will be Conor Dempsey. Tickets are only €10 and there will be a door prize and a raffle.

Derek Warfield and the Young Wolf Tones will be in Harney’s Ballyedmond, on Saturday the 23rd. of July helping her campaign. The music starts at 9.00pm sharp. You are guaranteed a rousing night of rebel songs and tickets only cost €25. You can purchase tickets from the Post Office in Boolavogue, from any of Louise’s team or from Anna in Ballyedmond. You can pay by cheque, by cash or by Revolute. The tickets are selling out fast so call Louise on 087-9682133 or Anna on 086-3254465 to buy one.

Louise is also running a Monster Raffle with great prizes. The first prize is €200 worth of home heating oil, second prize is €100 worth of coal, the next prize is a delicious hamper, the fourth prize is a bottle of whiskey, the fifth is two bottles of wine, and the last prize is a box of chocolates. It only costs €5 for a line in the raffle and the prizes will be drawn at the end of August.

Mayoral Campaign–Jimmy ‘Shugs’ Gahan

Pat Doran was the eventual winner of the Pool Tournament organised to help raise funds for Jimmy ‘Shuggs’ Gahan’s campaign, beating Kevin Walsh by 4-3 in a tense and very exciting final.Kevin had gone 3-0 up and looked to be sure of winning the €500 purse but Pat dug deep, concentrated fiercely, steadied the ship and collected the prize in the end.

Jimmy’s next event will be a Monster Bingo on Sunday the 9th. of July.

Monster Bingo Sunday 9th. of July at 8.30pm. This will be hosted in Kelly’s of the Harrow and you can play in the Lounge or online. If you have relatives in Australia, New Zealand, America or Canada, you can get them to join in the fun. All anyone who wishes to play needs to do is to text their full name to 087-0969121 to join the Bingo WhatsApp group. As soon as you are added to the group, details of how to pay and play will be sent to you. His team are working on another few fundraising ideas and would like people to keep the 6th. of August clear in their social calendar for more fun and frolics.

School News

The senior classes, 4th., 5th. and 6th., went on their school tour to Clara Lara last week and would like to thank Mrs McCabe for cooking such delicious food for them there. The school’s eight Junior Infants had made owls during the week and took these birds on a tour of the school grounds.

The Creative Schools project continuted last week with more drumming and percussion workshops with the talented Conor Moore.

Our senior classes had a fantastic day on their school tour to Clara Lara. They had so much fun

First Holy Communion

Congratualtions to the six angels from Boolavogue N.S. who made their First Holy Communion in St. Cormac’s Church on Sunday last, the feast of Corpus Christi.

Cúl Camp

Monageer/Boolavogue GAA club is once again hosting a Kellogg’s Cúl Camp this summer. The camp will be held in the club’s pitch in Monageer from Monday the 8th. of August until Friday the 12th. of August and will foster football, hurling and camogie skills. The cost for the first child from a family is €75, €60 for a second child and an €50 each for any additional participant. As well as top class coaching and fun-filled activities, the children will each receive a Cúl Camps backpack, jersey and 1/4 zip top. Wedding Bells

Congratulations to Dr. Jacinta Gahan, Ballyorley, daughter of Alicia and the late Bill R.I.P., who married John O’Brien, a fellow teacher in St. Peter’s College, in the College chapel on the Thursday the 16th. of June last. The wedding reception was held in the Ferrycarrig hotel and the happy couple will be honeymooning in Bali.



Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place in Caim Church every Monday from 11.30 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.


The annual patron and blessing of graves took place in Caim last Sunday. A Very large crowd attended and the Cemetry was beautifully decorated for the patron.

Caim barbecue

Caim annual barbecue was held last Friday night on church grounds and was very well attended.
