Students hailing from Wexford can be in with a chance to compete for several awards in this year’s Enterprise Ireland Student Entrepreneur Awards competition.

The awards, which are now open for applications, aim to attract applications from students from third-level institutions across the country. The criteria? Students must have an innovative business idea that they believe has tangible commercial potential.

Students from all academic disciplines who have viable ideas for a business start-up as a career option are being encouraged to apply.

The awards themselves are co-sponsored by Cruickshank, Grant Thornton and the Local Enterprise Offices. Ten finalists will be selected to compete for awards that include the Local Enterprise Office High Achieving Merit award.

The overall winner of the competition will receive €10,000 and mentoring from Enterprise Ireland that will help them develop the commercial viability of their business concept.

Other award winners will also receive advice and mentoring support from Enterprise Ireland, as well as sponsorship to help them turn their business vision into a commercial reality.

University College Cork student Annie Madden, co-founder of FenuHealth, won Enterprise Ireland’s 2022 Student Entrepreneur of the Year Award. Her company develops natural products that are designed to prevent and resolve stomach problems in horses and ponies.

SETU student Alannah Pardy of Recapture One, a cloud-based multimedia company specialising in the development of personalised bereavement memorials, was another winner in the 2022 awards.

Richard Murphy, Manager Local Enterprise Offices Support, Policy & Co-ordination Unit, Enterprise Ireland, said the awards are a “stepping stone to success for Ireland’s future business leaders”.

“Many past participants have excelled in entrepreneurship on both national and international levels,” he said.

The closing date for entries to this year’s awards is Thursday, March 16. See www.studententrepreneurawards.com.
