There was great excitement at the Gorey Area Business and Endeavour Awards recently.
Two local businesses, Southeast Mortgages & Financial Services and Cada Media Ltd, joined forced to recognise and reward businesses and charities in the Gorey district. Working in conjunction with Gorey Business Network the Gorey Area Business and Endeavour Awards was one of the highlights of the social calendar.
Philip Cullen of Southeast Mortgages & Financial Services who is a great advocate of keeping things local said: “There are fantastic businesses, groups, clubs and charities in and around Gorey and many never get the help, or recognition they deserve”. He feels that this is a great way for people to give a little back to businesses and /or people that go that extra mile and help local charities in the process as all profits go to local charities once again.
“The local community nominated and then voted under 20 categories. There were 1,700 nominations followed by 26,954 votes. There were just under 400 people there on the night as well as a healthy attendance on Facebook Live on the night.
“The winners were determined by a combination of the public votes and a panel of local business owners and members of the Gorey Business Network.”
The two main aims of the night are, according to Philip networking and fundraising, with equal weight given to each element.
The profit made on the night was €8,411 which will be donated to five charities. These are Advocates for Autism (€2,046), Talk to Tom (€1,889.10), Jack and Jill (€1,630), Meals on Wheels (€1,428.50) and Defibs for Gorey (1,418).
Winners on the night were: Michelle’s Curvy Boutique (Family Business); Pettitt’s Supervalu (Best place to work); TJ Redmond (Sports Achievement); Fika (Start Up); Whizzy Internet (Innovation); Salt Rock Dairy (Green Business); Peak Fitness (Service Business); Sean Barnes (Young Person of the Year); Kia Ora Mini Farm (Visitor Attraction/Tourism); Fifth Avenue (Customer Service); Bronagh Stafford (Lifetime Achievement); Hungry Bear (Hospitality Business); Stafford’s Bakery (SME 15+); Gorey Institute of Beauty (SME 1-15); Lisa Kinsella (Young Achiever); Michelle’s Curvy Boutique (Retail Business); Mandy Tighe (Person of the Year); Karen Dunbar of Gorey School of Pop (Entrepreneur); K&K Windows (Overall Business) and Advocates for Autism (Charity/Group).
