ENNISCORTHY-based school-lunch supplier Freshtoday has been awarded the much sought-after international accreditation award ‘ISO:14000 Environmental Management System’.
The company is apparently the first and only school lunch supplier in the country to receive the prestigious award, which is issued by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI).
Freshtoday received the mark for the environmental management system it currently has in operation.
Speaking about the system, a spokesperson for Freshtoday said: “This also includes our sourcing and purchasing of ingredients and local products, as well as the cooking, preparation and delivery of school lunches, encompassing the full service that we provide.”
From a small start-up operation in 2010, Freshtoday is now a national supplier of school lunches, with the award being an acknowledgement, as well as a validation of the quality of the lunch service that the company provides.
In receiving its latest quality mark, the business has joined a very elite and exclusive list of companies in Ireland that hold both the ISO: 22000 Food Management Safety Standard and ISO:14001 Environmental Management System Standard, simultaneously.
“Freshtoday has grown throughout the past decade, through a policy of providing what we believe, are the highest-quality lunches and the best sustainable practices on the market,” said the spokesperson.
“We have a strong commitment and track record of supporting local food producers, as well as employing local members of the community.”
A local support ethos has been at heart of Freshtoday from the very outset.
“Each year, we continually strive towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly future, for both ourselves and for generations to come. We have understood the importance and significance of responsible consumption and production.”
In 2019 alone, Freshtoday eliminated over 7.5 million single-use plastic bottles from schools across Ireland, putting sustainability at the forefront of its company priorities.
