Fit4Life series ends on a high

The third and final event of the Supervalu Fit 4 Life Women's 5K Series took place in ideal weather conditions in Tubbercurry last Friday evening.

Yet again South Sligo AC excelled in their preparation and organising of the event with a well marshalled route and plenty of refreshments along the way and afterwards.

Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership who organise the overall Fit 4 Life Women's Initiative and the main sponsors Supervlau were delighted with the fact that the series continues to draw women of all ages and abilities with a total of 161 different women participating over the 3 events combined.

In addition, 30 women participated in all 3 events and each of these women were eligible for potential prizes based on their commitment to participating in all 3 events.

Prizes were allocated to the five participants who improved their times the most over the 3 events and these were awarded to; Anne Gallagher. Jackie Breslin, Susie Connolly, Marian Smith and Rose Young while a special walking award was present to Fionnuala O'Donnell who participated in all 3 walking events.

The top 3 finishers in this year's series were Sinead Fowley, a new runner to the series who performed very strongly on all 3 events.

Second was Aisling Van Rensburg from North Sligo AC who continues to run well every year in the Women's 5K Series and third was Fiona Fahy Gilmartin of Sligo AC who had three great runs over the course of the series and continues to improve each year.

Each of the participants who completed at least two events in the series were presented with a 2019 Fit 4 Life Women's 5K series running vest.

Next year's series will see the other three local clubs in Sligo; Corran AC, Tireragh AC and Calry AC host the series events.
