A Special Olympics Young Athlete club has been set up in Sligo.

This follows the fantastic Special Olympics 'Come and Try Day' on September 21st after which it was decided to start a club here.

There is an information night taking place on November 4th in Forthill. Kitty Tierney, Regional Development Officer with Special Olympics Connaught said: "We met some fantastic athletes, their families and volunteers that day and now those children and their families will have their own club where children can come each week for a programme of sport and play. These clubs will be run by volunteers and family members.

"Children will be introduced to a wide variety of play activities in a familiar, supportive and fun environment where every child has the opportunity to succeed.

"We have already rolled out the Young Athlete programme in Roscommon and Galway and this will be the first club of its kind for young children in Sligo."

You are invited to attend an information night which will be held in the Northside Resource Centre, Forthill, Sligo. on Monday November 4th at 7pm. This information night is for all families, volunteers, schools and services who would like to participate in the new Young Athlete club. "Please help us promote this new club and pass this invitation onto anyone else you feel might like to get involved," Kitty added.
