Schoolchildren out in force for athletics fest
Over one thousand primary school children representing thirty five primary schools from all over County Sligo converged on the IT Sligo athletics track on Friday last for the annual Super Valu Primary Schools Athletics Festival organised by Sligo Sport and Recreation Partnership and Youth Sport West.
This was the tenth year for this popular event which focuses on participation and sport for all.
There were great displays of athleticism and effort from all participants with twenty eight schools qualifying for finals from individual event heats. Certificates of participation were presented to all athletes in recognition of their sporting efforts.
The event was supported by a team of volunteers including County Sligo Athletics Association, Sligo AC, South Sligo AC, Tireragh AC and North Sligo AC and a group of transition year students from Sligo Grammer School.
