National champion Jonathan
Sligo's promising young badminton star, Jonathan Dolan won his first national senior men's singles tilte on Sunday.
And the Calry teenager made it a particularly memorable day by also capturing the men's doubles title, partnering Sam Magee to a notable success.
"I was crippled with nerves in the singles final but thankfully everything worked out," Jonathan told The Sligo Champion.
After number one seed, Scott Evans, withdrew from the Championship, Dolan felt his time had come to land the big prize.
"I was seeded to play Scott in the semi-final and when he withdrew I knew this could be my big chance," Jonathan explained.
He beat fellow Irish team member, Tony Stephenson, in the semi-final before accounting for Joshua Magee in the final 21-17, 21-12.
"The first game in the final was tight enough but I managed to pull away and win 21-17," the new Champion said.
"That settled the nerves a bit and I won the second game with a bit to spare.
"It's a great feeling to be the national champion.
"I've put in a huge amount of work over the years and this is a great reward."
In the doubles, Jonathan and Sam Magee beat Ryan Stewart and Ciaran Chambers in the final.
