Tubbercurry Juniors

During the Christmas holidays a 3 ball scramble was held. A total of seven teams took part.

Results-1st Niall Fleming, Sinead Forkin, Callum Hopkins Rowley.2nd -Ciara Forkin, Katie Molloy, Jack Corley.In the r/e section the winners were Niall Fleming, Colin Brennan.

 

Castle Dargan Ladies

We wish all our members a healthy and happy New Year and many enjoyable hours on Castle Dargan Golf Course this year. We also wish our loyal sponsors prosperity and success in 2015.

The year kicked off with a very enjoyable 3 club competition on New Year's Day, followed by some sociability afterwards in the Middleton Bar at Castle Dargan Hotel.

The fourth round of the Winter League, kindly sponsored by Aurivo, will take place on Saturday and Sunday next 10th & 11th of January. Please make arrangements with your playing partners and book tee times. A 9 hole stableford club competition will also take place over next weekend. Arrange your own playing partners.

Our first committee meeting of 2015 will take place on Wednesday 14 December 2015 at 8.30 pm. We look forward to an enjoyable team working experience in the coming year together with a good working relationship with our stakeholders and, most of all, an excellent golfing year.

Tubbercurry Mens

Next Sunday the new golf season kicks-off with the Captains' drive in. Come along and watch James and Brid tee it up for the first time in 2015 . Captains' drive in is at 11am,

Previous to that at 9am the non qualifiers in the winter league tee off, and at 11 30am, straight after the captains' drive in, it's the grand final of the winter league . Good luck to all concerned, here's hoping for a fine day and good scoring.Time to get your partners lined up as the SMS motors super league starts on Sunday February 1st.

Strandhill Mens

Friday's 15 hole Open Stableford Competition saw a fantastic standard of golf played over 15 holes with first and second places both being taken by Strandhill Golf Club players Pikvl Zbigniew and David Lindsay. Both players finished on the same score of 35 points but it was Pikvl Zbigniew who took first place by virtue of a count back.

Zbigniew played consistently throughout the 15 holes and got his round of the the best possible start by scoring a birdie on the first hole. He also added a fantastic eagle on the difficult par four, sixth hole and added a further birdie on the penultimate hole, the par three fourteenth on his way to signing for his score.

David Lindsay shot an excellent front nine of level par with no less than 7 pars and a birdie on the par four eight hole. He added a further two pars on the back nine to ensure that he secured second spot.

Saturday's 15 hole Stableford Competition saw most of the regular Saturday golfers return after the Christmas period and while the temperatures may have been low, the scores were high.

Frank Cosgrove took first place on the day with an excellent score of 37 points in a round that saw him get off to a slow start on the first hole but after that remained consistent throughout the remaining holes to sign for his score.

Second place was taken by Andy Leggett on a score of 35 points in a round which included no less than 9 pars over the course of his 15 holes.

Third place was taken by Louis Cabena with a score of 33 points. Single figure handicapper Louis scored par on twelve out of the fifteen holes on the way to signing for his score.

3rd Louis Cabena (06) - 33 points

Sunday's 15 hole Stableford Competition saw the rain stay away but the temperatures remained low. This, however, did not stop the competition reaching a high level with only three points covering the top five finishers.

Sean McMorrow took first place with a score of 37 points with a round that saw his score three pars and a birdie in the first four holes with the birdie coming on the tricky par three second hole. Sean added another par on the par four eighth and remained consistent from that point onwards to sign for his winning score.

Second place was decided on a countback between Pat Corcoran and John Rainey as both players finished with 35 points and it was John that secured second place as a result. John scored a total of eight pars and added a birdie on the par five fifth, pitching his shot from the fairway into the hole.Pat Corcoran finished in third place and continued the birdie trend by adding one of his own on the par four eleventh hole.

He added five pars along with his birdie to ensure that he signed for a score of 35 points.

The Strandhill Lodge & Suites sponsored Winter League will recommence on Sunday January 18th 2015. The timesheet for that Sunday will become available from this coming Saturday and tee slots can be booked from then. You can check out your scheduled fixtures on the Winter League page by clicking here.

Winter rules will also be in play for the duration of the competition.

The next Seniors Society outing will take place on Wednesday next, January 14th 2015.

Senior Open 15 Hole Stableford Competition

The next Senior Open 15 Hole Stableford Competition will take place on Wednesday January 7th 2015. There will also be a special menu available on the day. A bowl of Irish Stew, a Mini Breakfast or Soup & a Sandwich for only €5.

There will be a timesheet in operation on the day and places can be booked via the BRS Booking system or by contacting the Golf Shop on 071 9168188 Ext. 32.

From Monday, January 12th 2015, winter rules will come into play on all fairways. Any golf ball that comes to rest on a fairway must be lifted and placed a maximum of 2 club lengths into the nearest first cut of rough and not nearer the hole.

Boyle

Last Sunday's nine hole was won by Charlie O'Donnell 22pts, 2nd Terry Bright 21pts, 3rd Jim Mooney 21pts. The weekly nine hole was won by Liam Mullaney 21pts, 2nd Jim Mooney 20pts.Competitions for this week are the weekly nine hole Monday to Saturday with a nine hole re-entry next Sunday. Details for the 2015 Golfer of the year will be announced shortly.

The monthly meetings of the Mens, Ladies and Management Committee's will take place this Wednesday evening at 8.30pm. Meetings of the course and finance committee also take place this week.

The annual Captains Drive-in took place on 1st January 2015. Lady Captain Carmel Hatt and Captain Aidan Doyle had the honour of driving off on the 1st tee . They both drove straight up the fairway in front of a large audience. Afterward they both spoke to the gathered audience about their hope for a great year of golf.

They spoke of the new developments on the course which are ongoing and wished all a great year of golf with improvements in the social side of the club.

Afterwards the County Sligo Golf men's choir performed a number of songs some of them especially chosen by the new captains.

The New Year was rung in in the clubhouse at the New Year's Eve party.

Good food, music and fun hopefully will make this an annual event.

The annual drive in of the new Captains took place on Januray 1st. To a packed clubhouse , of young and old ,the new and 100th Captain Aidan Doyle and Lady Captain Carmel Hatt addressed those present and outlined their year ahead and thanked the members for the continued support.

Entertainment was provided by the evergreen Male Voice Choir.Saturday 3rd January 2015-Singles Stableford, 10 holes White Tees.

With the start delayed to frosty conditions 13 teams took part in this festive Team of 3 event with the winners being Martin Mc Donnell(8) Pat Togher(17) and John Gilmartin(11).

In the Neafsey Cup The effervescent and affable Aidan Anderson showed his mettle in challenging weather conditions to beat fellow "Metal Men" and win the Neafsey Cup to add to his win in 2001.It was the 26th staging of the event for men and women whose Alma Mater was the National School (s) in Rosses Point.
