All systems go for Skoda Sligo Sportive

IT'S all systems go for the eagerly-awaited Sligo Champion Sportive.

Hundreds of cyclists will take to the roads for the spectacular event on Saturday.

Stunning model, Vogue Williams, and top comedian, Karl Spain, will join hundreds of leisure cyclists on the starting line at the Sligo Park Hotel.

Among the local sporting celebrities planning to take part are GAA star, Eamonn O'Hara, Sligo Rovers manager, Ian Baraclough, and Sligo Champion soccer columnist, Conor O'Grady.

The President of Cycling Ireland, Denis Twomey, is doing the Sportive on the tandem with his partner, Audrey.

The Sportive includes two routes, 50km and 100km, each of which will showcase the stunning scenic beauty of West Sligo.

It's an ideal event for leisure cyclists, young and old, advanced and new.

The riders will set off from Sligo Park Hotel at 9.30am on Saturday and all cyclists will be chip-timed.

As excitements builds up in advance of the Sportive, a special pre-event night will take place on Friday.

It's a 'Pasta and Power Up' evening hosted by Burns Car Sales at their showrooms.

The event, which runs from 7.30pm to 9pm, will include early bird registration, expert advice and tips and a Pasta party.

There will be a further opportunity for registration from 8am to 9am at the Sligo Park Hotel on Saturday.

The charity partner for the Sligo Sportive is the Abbeyquarter Community Centre Afterschool Service. The Sligo event is the first in a number of cycles in the SKODA series.
