Lough Gill swim takes place on Saturday
Preparations are in full flow for this year's Lough Gill Swim.
The Lough Gill Swim and Family Fest will take place on this Saturday 17th August.
This annual swim event is in its 9th year now and was set up in memory of Neil McGarry who passed away in the North West Hospice.
Significant funds have been raised every year to help towards their operating costs.
Last year a record breaking €41,000 was raised by the swimmers and visitors at the annual family fun day.
"We hope that 2019 is another record-breaking year and hope to have reached €250,000 for the hospice over the past 9 years in total!" says Lisa McDaniel, PRO with the Lough Gill Swim Committee.
Over 100 swimmers will take part in the three swim events this year, and will travel from all over Ireland and Europe.
The 10km race will start from Parkes' Castle and finish at the back avenue in Doorly Park. This marathon swim is a real test of swimmers abilities; mentally and physically with the average swimmer taking 3.5to 4 hours to complete the course. Swimmers will also take part in a 1 mile race and a team relay race.
The annual family fun day at the swim finish line will be happening next Saturday afternoon from 1.30 to 5pm. Scruffy Duffy, Lough Gill Family Fest said: "From year to year the event is growing and we expect crowds in 2019 to be the largest ever. Our main sponsor for the family fest Abbott Ireland has been very supportive of the event again this year. They allow us to have a super line up of activities including Dinky Diggers, Giant Bouncy Castles, Crazy Golf, Face Painting, Giant Connect 4, Arts and Crafts, Precious Pet Experience and the Scruffy Duffy Show2."
Organisers of the Lough Gill Swim wish to thank all volunteers and sponsors for their generous support of the swim, without which they could not run such a successful event.
Come down to the back avenue to cheer them on with your family and enjoy the festival fun for all. For more information see www.loughgillswim.com or check it out on Facebook.
