Vital points for E Harps

Furey's Coaches Division 1 League Round 6: Eastern Harps 0-15 St Molaise Gaels 1-9

Eastern Harps' senior team secured two vital league points in Round 6 of the Furey's Coaches Div. 1 football league when they had three points to spare over St.Molaise Gaels in the Fr.Kevin Brehony Memorial Park, Keash on Sunday.

A monopoly of second half possession proved a decisive factor.

The home side eventually reflected abundant possession on the scoreboard in damp and blustery conditions.

The exchanges were close in the opening half,with Harps holding a slender 0-5 to 0-4 advantage at the interval.

Jamie McLoughlin gave the visitors an early lead with a point from play.

Points from Shaun 0'Hara and Sean Bruen gave the home side a lead which could have been greater.

Tony Taylor pointed a 45m. free before Shaun 0'Hara had his second point. James Heraghty put over a 20m.free on 20 minutes before Alan McLoughlin won a long delivery from the right wing and pointed.

Goalkeeper John Gilsenan came forward to equalise from a '45 but Tony Taylor edged the home side ahead just before half-time with a pointed 40m.free.

Harps took control early in the second half with points from Shane O'Grady,Michael Clarke and two pointed 20m. frees from Tony Taylor.

Luke Towey and Alan McLoughlin responded for St.Molaise Gaels with points from play and a 13m.free.

Ross Donovan and Shane O'Grady added to Harps' tally with points from play.St.Molaise Gaels rallied with substitute Darragh Gallagher pointing a 20m.free and Alan McLoughlin hitting his third point from play.

The visitors were right back in the game when another substitute Joe Spellman availed of a turnover in the Harps defence to crash the ball to the Harps net. Game on.

The home side responded decisively with points from Ciarán Hannon and Shane O'Grady from play and another pointed free from Tony Taylor.

Alan McLoughlin's point from play reduced the deficit but the home side held on to record only their second victory in the competition.

The game was well contested throughout; defences were more dominant with the home side a bit sharper in attack.

Both managements will be looking to further improvement in the weeks ahead as the championship looms.
