Sligo ladies on a roll with second victory
LIDL Ladies National Football League Division 3, at Cloonacool - Sligo 1-16 Wicklow 0-12
Sligo ladies are on a roll in the Lidl Ladies NFL with two wins in a row after their 7 point victory over Wicklow in Cloonacool on Sunday.
This was another solid performance from John O'Hara and Davie Curran's outfit who had defeated Down on their home soil the previous weekend by 5 points.
The opening ten minutes saw both sides trade a number of scores, with the hosts going ahead by the tightest of margins, three points to Wicklow's two after the opening spell.
Three minutes later and the visitors drew level with a free while midway through the half Sligo were dealt a blow when reduced to 14 after Elaine O'Reilly was sin binned.
This gave Wicklow some breathing space and they went in front by a point with 19 minutes played.
With 25 minutes on the clock, O'Reilly returned to the field and the Yeats women were back level with 5 points a piece.
The hosts then began to exert more dominance and scored three points without response to go in with a 3 point lead at the break, 8 points to 5.
Five minutes after the resumption and Sligo's lead increased even further when O'Reilly found the net for the game's only goal, Sligo were ahead at this stage by 1-9 to Wicklow's five points.
Sligo were really dominating the game at this stage and their lead leapt to an 11 point margin with 15 minutes remaining.
Wicklow to their credit didn't give up and kept the scoreboard ticking over but Sligo had done more than enough to see out the win and make it two from two in a commendable campaign so far.
Next up is Roscommon on March 17th.
