Sligo Manager Anthony Brennan has announced the appointment of his captain and vice captain for the Sligo LGFA Senior Ladies Gaelic team ahead of the Lidl NFL which kicks off on February 13th.

Captain is Geevagh’s Sarah Reynolds and Vice-Captain is Claire Dunne from St Farnan’s.

Sarah is a versatile mid fielder who has made the middle of the park her own over the last few years for club and county.

Sarah is a teacher in Strandhill National School said she being appointed Captain “is a huge honour, and it’s a massive role”. She is prepared to put in as much work and commitment it takes.

She is excited for the year ahead and wants to aim big this season by helping to get the team further in the league, move up a division and win the championship.

Her Vice-Captain will be Claire Dunne from the St Farnan’s Club.

Claire is currently a student in DCU, studying Athletic Therapy.

She says being appointed Vice Captain of the team “was a bit of shock but it’s something nice to take on alongside Sarah”.

Claire’s hopes for the season are that the team plays well and pushes up a division and get to the end stages of the championship.

Sligo’s League campaign kicks of with a home game with Louth followed a week later when Down will make the trip to Sligo. Then Sligo will make the short journey to take on Roscommon on the 6th of March.

Speaking after the appointment manager Anthony Brennan said he was so happy the two ladies had agreed to take on the roles they had both stood out as leaders both on and of the pitch and is sure all the team will look up to Sarah & Claire.
