Culfadda and Mullaghroe reach final

Best of luck to the Culfadda boys and Mullaghroe girls who reached the final of the GAA Amigos after winning their East divisional finals in Ballymote recently.

Operation Transformation continues to dominate everyone's interest and after the Tansey Centra sponsored weigh in last week, the weekly winners of the Centra vouchers were "The Waltons" from Keash. Our executive meeting was postponed last Thursday and now takes place this Thursday February 14th at 8pm in the clubhouse.

D'cliffe/Rosses Pt

Our annual race night is on Saturday February 23rd in Collins Lounge Rathcormac. Race cards are available from Hughie Slevin and Gerard Carroll.

Sympathy to Niall Delaney on the death of his mother Maureen Delaney, Longford, Sheila Watters on the death of her mother in Kilgarvan County Kerry, Mary Reynolds, Rahaberna on the death of her brother in law John Mahoney Tynagh, County Galway, and Hannon Family Riverstown on the death of their mother.

Summerhill College beat St Mary's Galway on Monday evening in Centre of excellence Ballyhaunis in the Quarter final of the Senior A Competition, on a score of 5-07 to 0-05, well done to Jamie Gillen and Sean Finnegan who played on this team. The Semi Final versus St Jarlath's Tuam on 20th February venue to be arranged.

C'laney/ M'breena

Training for the Minor panel will take place on Sundays from 8pm to 9pm in St. Nathy's Hall. Coolaney / Mullinabreena GAA Club has recently signed up to the new Fastcom broadband loyalty scheme. The first Club Lotto draw will take place in early March. We would like to extend sympathy to Eileen Brennan, Mullinabreena south on the death of her uncle Michael Davitt, Cloonacool.

Sligo Ladies

Round 2 of the National Football League saw Sligo play Down at home on Sunday last. Another wet and windy day made conditions dreadful.

Sligo were forced to play a very defensive game as Down stamped their mark on the match very early on. It was a day for goals and as Down were the stronger team and with more attempts on target they emerged victorious with a final score of Sligo 1-7 Down 5-9.

All club Secretaries for 2013 are reminded to send on a full list of their club contact details to as soon as possible.

The County Board extends sympathy to the family and friends of Mike Davitt, Cloonacool, Tubbercurry. Mike was an uncle of Martin Seery who is a long standing member of the ladies association in the county.

St. Michael's

Our Annual Dinner Dance takes place on March 9th in Castledargen Hotel. Join the celebrations in this oiur30th year.

Tickets will be available from the usual outlets.Presentation of the Minor C Championship Medals will take place on the night.

Mass will take place on February 15th at 7.30pm in St Trese's Church Ballintogher for all deceased member's of St Michael's and the presentation of the Under 16 C League winners medals will take place in the Community Hall afterwards. Refreshments will be provided and all are welcome.

The clean up of the dressing rooms continues this week on Wednesday evening all helpers will be welcome

There will be a gala fundraising concert in Sooey Church on Friday March 15th, starting at 7:30PM. Some confirmed acts for the night include Michael Rooney and June McCormack (Draíocht), Sooey Childrens' Choir, local singers, dancers and musicians. Tickets cost €10, with children free. Tickets will be sold in the coming weeks in the local community.

(The concert will raise funds for Jolly Tots Community Playgroup, to cover deficit from recent building extension.

As pancake Tuesday is upon us, the club are planning to hold an Easter camp for children between 6 and 14. More details will be announced coming up to the time.

For the coming year all underage players will have to wear a mouthguard while taking to the field. The directive from Croke Park is aimed to prevent serious dental damage which can cost up to €200 to treat from some sports injuries. The community park ais running an energy management training programme starting on Monday March 4th which runs over eight weeks for 3 hours one night week. It is envisaged that the Programme will assist small enterprises and community groups and rural dwellers. This project is funded by Sligo LEADER Partnership Co. Our intermediate team resumed training last Friday night. The team will continue to train every Friday night at 8pm, all players are asked to attend. New players are very welcome.

The minor and u14 teams have resumed training in preparation for the new season. Best wishes to all the players and managers for 2013.

10K run: The Carden family, Lacknasleva, are organising a 10k run in memory of the late Mattie Carden again this year. It will take place on Saturday, March 9th, with all proceeds being donated to the Irish Kidney association. Anyone that would like to take part can register on

Shamrock Gaels

A Foundation Level Coaching Course takes place in Summerhill College on February 18th at 7.00pm. Anyone involved in the coaching of underage teams is encouraged to attend. The club will cover the cost – please contact Mark Tuohy on 087-9834083.

Senior players'membership is now due - €80 (€50 for students or unemployed) - membership of monthly draw automatically covers membership.

Bord Na NÓg will hold a cake sale on Saturday Feb 23rd in Riverstown Hall at 8.30pm - please support. There will also be an opportunity to register for 2013 at the cake sale if you missed registration last weekend – cost is €20 per person or €50 per family.

The lotto draw takes place this Friday February 15th in Hartes - jackpot €1,400.

The underage awards take place in Riverstown Hall on Saturday March 9th at 8.30PM.

The Club wish to express sympathy with the Hannon family and friends on the death of Fry Hannon, 10 Mile House, Riverstown last week. The Club formed a guard of honour at her funeral last week – Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam.

St. Molaise Gaels

The monthly Club meeting will take place on Tuesday next February 19th at 9.15pm sharp.

Club registration Night took place last Tuesday and was a great success. Thank you to all the coaches for their assistance on the night and to those who provided refreshements to the large attendance. Coaching for all Girls age groups up to U14 will commence on Saturday March 2nd from 10.00am to 11.00am. Coaching for Boys U6,U8 and U10 will start the same day from 11.00am to 12.00am. If anyone missed registration night there will be an opportunity to sign up on Saturday mornings from March 2nd. Underage membership is €30 per child with family membership ( 2 adults plus all children U18) available for €65. Adult membership for 2013 is €40. All adult players are reminded that membership must be paid before the competitive season starts.

Training for our senior and and junior football panels continues Tuesday and Friday evenings in Mullaghmore.

There will be a fundraising Table Quiz in Ellens on this Saturday night 16th February at 9.00pm in aid of a gentleman named Donal Madden who suffered a serious brain injury. Donal is a friend of one of our underage coaches Stephen Carroll.

The Club extend sincere sympathies to the McCann families of Cliffoney and Moneygold on the death of Colm McCann last week.

Sligo handball

The quartet of Shane Bruen, Martin Golden, Mick McMorrow and Paddy Walsh will be endeavouring to bring back four Connacht handball singles to Sligo at the weekend.

Bruen who caused a sensational semi-final result when he knocked out Galway's Morgan Duggan the runner up in last year's World Masters B singles final will go into the weekend's tie with a great deal of confidence. Bruen will face Mayo's Michael Ginley in the provincial decider.

Martin Golden qualified for the Golden Masters B final with an 13-21, 21-10, 21-3 victory over Galway's Willie Corcoran. Golden was narrowly beaten in last year's Connacht final and will be all the more determined to bring the Connacht title back to Ballymote this time round He faces Mayo's Tom Byrne.

Mick McMorrow from the St. Mary's club comes face to face with Mayo's Liam Burke in the Emerald Masters B singles. McMorrow had an impressive straight sets victory over Galway's Pierce Lalor in the semi-final will be keen to gain provincial hounours to that of his solitary All-Ireland handball title he won in 2011.

Legendary Sligo handball player Paddy Walsh is back in another Connacht final this time in the Over 70's where he takes on Roscommon's Mick Naughton. Walsh is aiming to win his 29th All-Ireland handball title.Walsh won his first All-Ireland back in 1974 and still hungry as ever for success.

The seniors have begun to prepare for the coming year having their first training session of 2013 at the weekend. A great turnout on Friday night under lights. The team will be in action in the next few weeks in the Benson cup. The club minor team will be the first underage team in action in the coming weeks and are currently training with the seniors

Indoor hurling will resume in the next 2 weeks for the 5-9 year old groups and the 10-13 years of age groups.

From January 1st is has been mandatory to use a mouthguard in all Gaelic matches and training sessions for all age grades up to and including minors.

Club Membership is now due for the year 2013.

The committee retained cost of membership at €20 for non playing members.Membership can be paid to any committee member or Club Treasurer Trevor Boland. All fully paid up members before March 31st are entitled to enter into adraw for All Ireland Football tickets.

St. John's

Tickets are now available for the play 'For club and county' to be held in the Mercy College on Saturday February 23rd. Tickets cost €10 and are available from club members. There was no winner of the lotto which now stands at €6000. €25 euro winners were Joseph Conlon, Peter Henry, Shona Grady, Gerry McMorrow. Our main pitch is closed at the moment with ground work being carried out this week. It is hoped that it is ready for the beginning of the playing season. Well done to senior players Philip Greene and Charlie Harrison who featured in Sligo's win against Antrim on Sunday On Friday night last the club were well represented at the Connaught GAA awards where we picked up the Sligo GAA grounds of the year award. Great credit is due to Charlie Kelly and Pat McCaffrey who kept the pitch in great shape throughout the playing season. The club also acknowledge the terrific work done by John Leyden, Fergal Kelly, Niall Gordon, Sean Reilly and other club members in securing signage and a new score board for our pitch.

St. Farnan's Ladies

Well done to all involved in the staging of the play "Cupid wore skirts" which played to sell out crowds in Dromore West Community Centre over three nights.

Jackie Mulligan has featured prominently with the Sligo Ladies team which has commenced it's Div. 3 League campaign. The side got off to the best possible start with a win over Longford in the opening round but the joy was short lived as the side suffered defeat at the hands of Down in the second round. Congratulations to Aisling Molloy who has been drafted into the panel. Noel Knox continues as a selector with the side for another year.

Congratulations to Frances Hanley, the St. Farnan's GAA Cultural Officer, who has been selected to act as M.C. for the upcoming All-Ireland Finals of Scór na nÓg, which will be held in Derry on Sat. week next, the 23rd.

Congratulations also to former Scór na nÓg competitor Roisin Kilgannon who was selected to sing Amhráin na bFhiann prior to the commencement of the Sligo versus Antrim National Football League game in Markievicz Park on Sunday last.

People of all ages from our community and many from far beyond have been numbed by the news of Sally Rowlette's sudden death shortly after giving birth to her fourth child. Sally (nee Golden) who hailed originally from Lugdoon, Templeboy, resided in Croagh, Dromore West along with her husband Sean and three children the oldest of which, Leanne, recently started playing with our U-8 team. The massive turnout for the removal and funeral bore testament to her popularity in the area. To her husband, children, parents, brother and sister and the extended Rowlette and Golden families may we offer our sincerest sympathy on their enormous loss.

St. Mary's

Dinner dance will take place on Saturday March 2ndin the Glasshouse Hotel. A night of celebration to recognise the fantastic achievements of our U16, U18 and U20 boys and U16 and U18 girls. Special guest, music by Scruffy Duffy and a great night in store. Tickets available from Team Managers and committee.

Well done to Sligo on a hard fought win on Sunday at home to Antrim , Mark Breheny and Johnny Martyn both involved in a good win .

Summerhill College reached the Senior A semi-final after a win over St. Mary's Galway in comprehensive style with number of Mary's players impressing in the victory last Monday.

GAA President Liam O'Neill will visit Geevagh N.S. on Thursday February 21st. He will launch our 'Young Sports Reporter' scheme and attend a hurling league game.

Preparations are at an advance stage for our Annual Dinner dance. . Tickets go on sale shortly. The event takes place in Kilronan Castle on Saturday March 2nd.

A players training fundraiser takes place in 'Paddy's Bar' on Friday February16th. The event will be based on the popular T.V. show 'Take me out' and a great night's entertainment is guaranteed Well done to Shane and Pat both of whom were outstanding in Sligo's hard earned victory over Antrim in Markievicz Park on Sunday.

The girls emerged from a large and competitive group to qualify for the final stages of the 'Gaamigos' skills competition during the week.

Congratulations to senior footballer Martin O'Reilly who was named hurler of the year' by Coolera GAA Club.

Owenmore Gaels

The various committees which were set up at the recent AGM will meet in the coming weeks. All committee members are asked to attend.

The Intermediate Team are continuing to train hard in preparation for the upcoming season. New players are always welcome.

Registration of all players will take place in the coming weeks. Dates and times will be arranged and all members will be notified.

It is worth noting that as of this year all players up to and including Minors must wear a mouth guard.

A coaching course will take place over three nights starting on Monday February 18th in Summerhill College. Time 7p.m.-9p.m.

It is vital that all club members involved in coaching teams have this course completed before the start of the season.
