Celtic Challenge starts for U17s

Sligo under 17 hurlers did not get the start that they wished in the opening round of the Celtic Challenge as they were defeated by Galway Tribesmen on a score of 4-24 to 0-9.

Galway were first off the mark with an early goal by their full forward and after this Sligo were chasing the game throughout. Galway's full forward made life difficult for Sligo and by half time they had scored 4-13 to Sligo's 0-5.

Sligo battled hard in the second half and some positional changes helped.

Although Sligo will be disappointed by the scoreline, the team will be hoping for better things in the next rounds.

They play Kildare Cadets on Wednesday in Edgeworthstown at 7pm. The ethos of the Celtic Challenge is developmental and Sligo have moved to a higher division from last year so it is to be expected that games will present a tougher challenge.
