Sligo jobless figures down 13%
Recently released 'Central Statistics Office' figures indicate that the Live Register in County Sligo for July 2019 has declined by 13% since 2018.
Assistant Government Chief Whip Tony McLoughlin TD said: "This is excellent news for our local economy and for the people of Sligo and it proves yet again that Fine Gael's handing of the economy and jobs portfolio has been a major success after the country's economy was destroyed by bad polices of the previous Fianna Fail and Green Party Governments.
"The number of persons on the Live Register is at the lowest recorded since February 2008. Some 221,100 new jobs have been created since the start of 2016 and we have well exceeded our target of 200,000 new jobs by 2020.
"Furthermore, our regional goal of 135,000 jobs has also been surpassed with 150,000 jobs created outside Dublin since the start of 2016. We are also delivering 'Project Ireland 2040'.
"We see evidence of this plan unfolding in Sligo with the N4, Western Distributor Road and O'Connell Street upgrades all under way."
