Letters to the editor

Dear Madam,

I am writing to you in response to the issue of The Sligo Champion of September 3rd 2013 and in particular about the article on 'first day at school.'

I found the article very interesting. All the pictures were colourful and bright.

It was great to see so many schools in the county featured in this article.

A child's first day in school is, after all, one of the most important days of their lives.

I thought it was wonderful to see the local paper covering it.

Keep up the good work.

Dear Madam,

I write to you in connection with the article ' €80 million debt not the end of the world'.

I am astonished that the retiring County Manager, Hubert Kearns, after being in charge of the Council for the last 17 years, does not think it is a big deal for the Council to be €80 million in debt.

It just seems to me that it's another public person holding a position of power who is not taking responsibility for their actions.

If this is his attitude then I have to agree with Councillor Declan Bree when he said: "I was pleased to hear the news that the Manager was retiring."
