Yeats statue vandalised

GARDAI INVESTIGATING the daubing of graffiti on the wall of the Ulster Bank in Sligo as well as the throwing of paint over the iconic statue of W. B. Yeats located outside the bank at Stephen Street are seeking information from anyone who may be able to help them with their enquiries.

The incident occurred between midnight and 6:30 on Saturday morning. Meanwhile, gardai have been viewing CCTV obtained from a number of sources in the area.

The word "zion" was decipherable in the graffiti on the bank wall while what was believed to have been a Palestinian scarf was thrown across the bronze Yeats statue.
