Walk to take place in memory of inspirational Peter Milne
The annual Benbulben climb that the late Peter Milne established will go ahead this year in his memory on June 15th.
Mr. Milne passed away in February following a lengthy battle with cancer. He was an avid climber and with this he raised funds for the Sligo Cancer Support Centre.
One of the last things he did was to make sure the walk would go ahead again this year even without him around to organise it. His infectious love of climbing mountains and his love of community remain as testament to him.
The Sligo Mountaineering Club will be stewarding and the Waters family will be hosting their famous tea for everyone climbing Benbulben. For his family and friends, it won't be the same without him but he wanted everyone to get up there and enjoy the mountains together.
Anyone wishing to take part should assemble at 10:30am at Rathcormac NS. The walk will be followed by tea and scones at the Waters' house from 2:30pm. Peter would have been the first to remind people that this is a climb, and walkers should dress appropriately and be prepared for rain even if the day looks clear, as the weather can change at the top. Climbers should also bring food and water.
The event will be raising money for the Sligo Cancer Support Society, whose huge support and compassion Peter was extremely grateful for. You can do your bit to make sure their services continue to be available to those who need it.
