Several new wheelchair accessible public seats and benches have been provided across County Sligo.
The 12 new seats and benches have been installed in Enniscrone, Mullaghmore, Rosses Point and other locations under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme, which was created to support recreation and sporting pursuits and to make use of the resources of the countryside that contribute to healthy active lifestyles.
This comes from a motion put forward by Councillor Marie Casserly earlier in the year at a Sligo-Drumcliffe Municipal District meeting and she states there are further plans, if funding becomes available, to consider additional seating and benches along the river walks in Grange village, as well as Raughly, Drumcliffe, Carney, Ballisodare, Collooney, Mullaghmore and Bunduff.
Cllr Casserly has welcomed the new public infrastructure and the provision of disability friendly facilities in the Drumcliffe area and across the entire region.
