Thought the road was clear

In her interview with gardaí following the accident, Ms Leonard said she did not see the motorcycle 'until the last second' and she had thought the road was clear to move onto the opposite side of the road.

Ms Leonard said there was nothing she could do to avoid the accident as she didn't see the motorcycle 'until the impact'.

Sergeant Mooney said even though a motorist has visibility at the junction a motorist would still be nervous exiting the junction.

"My experience is, you edge out," said the sergeant.

The court was told Ms Leonard was the manager of a creche in Leixlip, Co Dublin and this employment would no longer be available to her if she received a driving disqualification.
