Strandhill based gastropub The Draft House has scooped the award for Ireland's Casual Dining Experience at the Gold Medal Awards.

The award ceremony took place at a black-tie gala in Lyrath Estate in Kilkenny last week.

Described as the country's only site inspected and independently adjudicated Hospitality and Catering awards, the funky eatery fended off competition from eight other finalists to take home the gold.

"We are just over the moon with the win," says The Draft House Manager Nicholas Ryan.

"We take pride in what we do and work round the clock to bring our customers the very best in food and experience. That includes everything from having a large drink selection to showers for the surfers, kennels for the dogs, an incredible staff and of course, the very best in locally sourced produce. The award in a way is an acknowledgement of that.

"Our tagline is We Don't Do Ordinary for a reason and this can be seen from the food to the décor. We have regularly changing menus to coincide with seasonal ingredients as well as keeping things exciting for our customers. We are lucky to be in an area with such great produce, it's a joy to be able to include them in our dishes. Our staff are top notch and know everything there is to know about the food and drinks but they really have a way with our customers and that's what we want, people to enjoy their experience with us," says Mr. Ryan.

This accolade comes on the back of other recent success at the National Sky Bar Awards. This saw The Draft House being shortlisted in the Gastropub Category as well as seeing Elizabeth Brown win 'Staff Personality of the Year'.

"This award is also a nod to the rest of the local community in Strandhill and indeed Sligo which we love being part of. We have come a long way in just three short years but it wouldn't be possible without everyone's support.

"Awards like this are great for us, but also great for putting, or indeed keeping, the area on the map," says Mr. Ryan.
