"The Taoiseach has confirmed to me that he as included the teaching of Amhran na bhFiann in the Fianna Fail Election Manifesto, which was officially launched last Wednesday in Dublin's Mansion House.

"If returned to Government Fianna Fail will include the national anthem in the primary school curriculum, teach school children about the role and the significance of our national flag, and instil in them respect for the place of other nation's anthems and flags.

"This is a strong sign of the Republican idealism that remains at the core of everything.

"The National Anthem is central to the heritage of this State. The Department of Education has already circulated CD copies of the anthem to schools around the country, but this is the next step forward to ensure that the Anthem is continued through future generations.

"Amhran na bhFiann has been linked with key moments in our national history. It is important that another generation learns its importance in the history of our nation", concluded Senator Scanlon.
