Friends have rallied around a man who received a serious injury to his eye in an alleged stabbing incident near his home.

Anthony Burke has been left with a serious eye injury following an incident last April. Mr Burke needs help with medical and other expenses and a close friend has set up a Go Fund page in the past week to assist. It has almost attracted the goal of €5,000 already with donations flooding into the account since being established recently. Mr Burke fears losing his sight in the eye and will need ongoing specialist treatment.

Dozens of messages of support have been posted on the site for the popular Sligo barman. Many have expressed concern for Mr Burke and wish him well, hoping that he receives the best medical care and assistance he can. The page organiser says: “Currently he is not getting the support we were hoping for and Anthony is at great risk of fully losing his eye. I’m setting this up so we can get Anthony the care and attention he needs. We feel the state has let him down once the cameras left Sligo. I’m asking you to help me make Anthony’s life just a little better We need proper urgent medical and trauma care for him.”
