Man enters guilty plea on drug charge

A 35-year-old man has pleaded guilty to a charge of drugs possession. Brian Duke admitted unlawful possession of PVP at his home at 32 Cois Abhainn, Collooney between 1st February 2015 and March 31st 2015.

The guilty plea came ahead of his trial at Sligo Circuit Court before Judge Francis Comerford. He had initially pleaded not guilty to the charge and that of another of conveying the drug into Castlerea Prison on a date between February 1th and April 10th, 2015.

The latter charge was not proceeded with when Duke was re-arraigned last Tuesday at the Circuit Court which followed legal argument in the absence of the jury.

Duke was remanded on bail for sentencing on March 8th. He was represented by Mr BL, instructed by Mr Tom MacSharry.

The trial of co-accused, John Kennedy, Castleburn, Ballymote is continuing at the Circuit Court. He has pleaded not guilty to conveying the drug into Castlerea Prison on a date between April 9th and April 10th, 2015 and with unlawful possession of PVP at Ballisodare Post Office on February 9th 2015. A jury of eight men and four women have been sworn in to hear the case.
