There is positive news for Achonry with the announcement that there are 14 new jobs for its Aurivo plant.

Fianna Fáil TD for Sligo-Leitrim, Eamon Scanlon, has said the six new jobs, plus 8 redeployed roles to Aurivo, located in Achonry is a welcome boost for the area and has praised the local community who organised public meetings and campaigns to see jobs return.

He commented: "It is very welcome news that 14 jobs have returned to the area.

"Losing the original jobs in the butter churning process within Aurivo to Cork was a big blow. Fortunately, from Monday onwards we have these jobs back.

"I was determined to lend my support to the community in the area and today is a day to celebrate the news.

"For a remote area, days like these do not come around often. Given the neglection of rural Ireland by the current government, new jobs buck the trend seen across the Northwest.

"I look forward to continuing lending my support to the community and wish the new employees well in their roles," concluded Deputy Scanlon.
