Gino tipped to be Mayor next Monday

People Before Profit councillor Gino O'Boyle is set to become Mayor of the new Sligo Borough Municipal District when it meets for the first time on Monday next.

The county now has three districts making up the 18 councillors returned following the Local Elections on May 24th.

The Council met for the first time last Friday and following a deal between Fianna Fáil, Sinn Fein and councillors Declan Bree and Gino O'Boyle, Cllr Tom MacSharry was elected cathaoirleach and Cllr O'Boyle as leas cathaoirleach.

Next Monday sees the AGMs of the municipal districts of which Sligo now has three: Borough District of Sligo (Sligo/Strandhill electoral area) six councillors; Municipal District of Sligo (Sligo/Drumcliffe Electoral Area) five councillors and Municipal District of Ballymote-Tubbercurry (Ballymote/Tubbercurry Electoral Area) seven councillors.

Councillors Bree, O'Boyle, Chris MacManus, MacSharry and Rosaleen O'Grady are set to vote Cllr O'Boyle in as Mayor of the new Sligo Borough Municipal District. The only other member of the district is Fine Gael's Sinead Maguire.
