Getting the diaspora on board TEAM Sligo
MAJOR NEW INITIATIVE TO PROMOTE COUNTY SLIGO
SOME 140 business people attended a breakfast briefing in Dublin aimed at building and strengthening relationships with the Sligo diaspora in Dublin.
Sligo Chamber and Sligo Enterprise Europe Network, in association with the County Development Board hosted the gathering at Kildare Street which highlighted current developments in both enterprise and tourism and to promote Sligo as a location for new, expanding and relocating businesses.
Speakers included John Perry, Minister for Small Business, Julie Callaghan - Associate Director Equinoxe AIS, and Damien Devaney of TEAM Sligo.
It was a follow up to the "Sligo is Enterprising' event organised by Sligo Chamber in November 2009 at the same venue.
President of Sligo Chamber, Gerard Moore remarked how Equinoxe AIS, which was launched at the "Sligo is Enterprising" event two years ago, was a real life example and case study of a new business set up and locating in the North West of Ireland.
"We hope that as a result of this case study that we continue to develop and enhance the collaboration currently taking place in Sligo and build and strengthen our relationship with the Sligo Diaspora in Dublin, London and further afield," he said.
Equinoxe AIS is a provider of administration services to the hedge fund industry. Its headquarters is in Bermuda and it has existing Irish operations in Malahide. Its Sligo base is in the Innovation Centre at Sligo I.T.
Julie Callaghan, Associate Director Equinoxe AIS said some of the key factors for the company to date has been the collaboration with and support received from organisations such as the IDA, Sligo IT and Sligo Chamber.
"Also, the ease with which we have been able to hire high calibre staff for our Sligo office and the quality of life which those staff members have enjoyed since they made the move to Sligo. We will continue to hire staff for our Sligo office through the remainder of 2011 into 2012, with our aim being able to double our staff numbers from the existing eight staff during 2012," she said.
TEAM Sligo was established as a direct result of the 2009 gathering.
"TEAM Sligo's primary objective is that by 2014 County Sligo will be Ireland's most improved destination in terms of visitor numbers driven by the most admired destination brand in Ireland due to its innovation, appeal and grassroots integration as measured by Failte Ireland Millard Brown. It's a new initiative that seeks to harness the many excellent individual projects currently or previously conducted into a more joined up approach for Tourism in County Sligo," said Damien Devaney of TEAM Sligo.
