St Stephen's Day is a traditional day for visiting family and friends after the Christmas Day rush but this driver took it too far when cramming eight in, including a shocking five children not restrained at all!

Gardaí were caught by surprise when they spotted a child standing up between the driver and front seat passenger in the Volvo five seater.

The Sligo Roads Policing Unit pulled over the driver and discovered that two adult passengers were holding a child each on their lap and there were three other toddlers, all under the age of six, and not one being restrained. When Gardaí made enquiries they discovered the driver was already disqualified and the NCT disc on the windscreen was false while the tax on the vehicle was also expired.

The driver was arrested for driving while disqualified and will appear in court at a future date where he will face a number of charges including also one for driving without insurance. Gardaí seized the car and arranged for the safe transportation of the family.

"This driver recklessly endangered the lives of his entire family. Please belt up and drive safely and always ensure children are adequately secured and safe," said a Garda spokesperson.
