Funding at long last which will lift the gloomy look of Sligo's main street
It's long overdue but Sligo's main street is set to finally get the makeover it so badly needs.
Funding of €1.2m was announced by Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy for the O'Connell Street Enhancement project, which will line up with funding already allocated to this project under the European Regional Development Program. And, in another boost for Sligo, €4.3 Million has been allocated to the Eastern Garavogue Bridge project and its approach roads. The €20 Million Project should be ready to start construction in 2019 says Deputy Tony McLouglin.
"I look forward to Sligo County Council now getting down to business and delivering this long awaited upgrade of our main street," he added.
Some €750,000 has also been allocated to commence the redevelopment of Stephen Street car Pak into a town plaza. "We we can look for-ward to a new positive chapter for our town," said Deputy McLoughlin.
